Patrick Michael McCoy Kettering, Ohio Obituary

Patrick Michael McCoy

MCCOY, Patrick Michael “Pat”, age 59, of Kettering passed away April 13, 2022 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Patrick was born in Toledo, Ohio in 1963 to George R. and Delores C. McCoy. He was a graduate of Fairfield High School in 1981. While studying Police Administration at Eastern Kentucky University, Patrick joined the Sigma Pi Fraternity like his father before him before continuing in his father’s footsteps and joining the Army. After his military service concluded he pursued his dream of law enforcement and served as a Miami Township police officer for 31 years. Patrick was a firm believer in salvation through Jesus Christ, was a member of the congregation of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, and active in the Knights of Columbus. Patrick was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who wouldn’t hesitate for a moment to drop everything to help those he loved. He was a talented artist who was inspired through his sense of humor to bring joy to others with his comic “…And Then the Fight Started!!!” - a constant source of laughter and comfort for his family. Pat held a lifelong love affair with baseball, playing whenever possible and passionately following the Cincinnati Reds his entire life. It was with great difficulty that he “volunteered” his retirement time to work security at the local Dayton Dragons home games. (He believed somebody needed to make the sacrifice!) Retirement didn’t last long as Pat quickly returned to work as a police officer for the city of West Carrollton, where he had been working until the time of his illness. Pat’s other great passions in life were restoration of a 1929 Ford Model A Tudor, spending time (as Trish permitted) with his crew at the Dublin Pub, as vaunted member of the Dub Pub Club. He is known for helping any friends or strangers in need, all the while bragging about and showing off his children and grandchildren to anyone who would listen. Preceded in death by his father, George R. McCoy, Pat is survived by his wife and partner of 26 years, Patricia “Trish” McCoy; daughter, Erin T. (Michael) Blair; son, Spencer R. (Tahnee) McCoy; daughter, Brittainy (William) Kozuh; daughter, Margaret Taylor and her fiancé, Grant Hage; 5 grandchildren, Vance, Taylor, and Kenneth Blair; Benjamin and Joshua McCoy; his mother, Delores McCoy; mother-in-law, Lois Shupps; brother, Edward (Connie) McCoy; sister, Cheryl (John) Sottile; brother-in-law, Douglas (Shontyl) Shupps; nieces and nephews, Chelsea (Abdullah) Freiwan, Casea (Jeremiah) Davis, Jack and Michael Sottile, and Adam and Layla Freiwan, and many, many loving friends who are considered family. The family will receive friends from 4:00PM to 7:00PM Thursday, April 21, 2022 at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering with Knights of Columbus service at 7:00PM. Mass of the Christian burial will be held at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church at 12:00 noon Friday, April 22, 2022 at 3033 Far Hills Avenue, Dayton, OH 45429. The family is very grateful for the kindness and excellent care of Hospice of Dayton, and the medical staff of Kettering Medical Center and in-patient rehab. If desired, friends may make memorial contributions to the Roll Call at the Dublin Pub for the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Memorial.
