Arthur "Otts" Cooper Obituary

Arthur “Otts” Cooper, age 97, peacefully passed away on March 30th, 2022. Otts was born on February 11, 1925, in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Clarence D. Cooper & the late Emma V. Cooper (nee Folks). He is the devoted husband of the late Mildred “Milcie” Cooper; loving father of Scott J. Cooper (& his wife, Lisa); caring grandfather of Max Joseph & Ava Catherine; dear brother-in-law of Henry Weber; cherished brother of Dorothy Linz, the late Mildred Jones, the late Clarence E. Cooper, the late LeRoy Cooper, the late Howard Cooper, & the late Thelma Zurawski. Uncle Otts is also loved and survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, & great-nephews.

He started working at Hutzler Brothers Department Store in Baltimore at a very young age and worked for the company for nearly 50 years. He served in the U.S. Army during and after WWII in Europe, and then again during the Korean War as a master sergeant at Fort Bragg where he trained troops heading overseas.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Patapsco Council 1960, American Legion Dewey Loman Post 109, the Fighting 69th Infantry Division Association, and the Arbutus Community Association. He also worked for nearly 25 years, later in his life, for the Belair Auto Auction, finally “retiring” from this second career at the age of 93.

Otts greatly loved fishing and crabbing, and most especially loved spending time and relaxing with family and friends, on the Chesapeake Bay in the Neck District of Dorchester County, Maryland.

The family will receive guests at 9:30 AM at Our Lady of the Angels Chapel at Charlestown Retirement Community on Friday, April 22, 2022, followed by a Memorial Mass at 10 AM. Inurnment will immediately follow at Meadowridge Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Otts’ life with a wake/reception/luncheon, immediately following inurnment, at the Arbutus Community Association Town Hall from 12:30 to 3:30 PM.
