Gail Hudson was born in Phildelphia, PA, and moved to the Los Angeles area at age 3 with her
mother and sisters. She graduated from Mark Kepple High School in Alhambra.
In 1969 Gail enlisted in the United States Navy. She served as a corpsman for 20 years. She was
stationed at many hospitals around the world. While stationed in Japan during the Vietnam War
she cared for many service members wounded in Vietnam. She participated in the evacuation of
the U.S. Embassy in Saigon. She was involved in medical research of infectious diseases at
NAMRU outside of Cairo, Egypt.
After retiring from the Navy in 1989 Gail settled in the San Diego area where she was a National
Service Officer for Disabled American Veterans where she advocated for veterans’ benefits. She
also served as a member of the Department of Veterans Affairs Rating Board at the VARO in
San Diego. She was a 17-year survivor of breast cancer. In December of 2021 Gail was diagnosed with
COVID-19 and remained ill until her death on her 75th birthday.
Gail is survived by her spouse Patricia Cutler, her sister Helen Hudson and “adopted” sister Julie
Ivey. She was preceded in death by her mother, Marie Hudson, and her sister, Eleanor
Newcomer.
