JoAnne Gilmore Obituary

JoAnne Gilmore, age 75, of Boulder City, passed away April 3, 2022 at her home surrounded by her two beloved daughters, two loyal dogs and her friends, Monte and Jeannine, who helped care give her final year.  She was born on August 9, 1946 in White Plains, NY, to Carl Light and Rita Anabell Capparella Light.  In her younger years, she moved to Southern California, where she met and married Russell James Gilmore on May 10, 1969.  Russell preceded her in death May 23, 2016.  They had moved to Boulder City in 1984 from Reno, NV, previously from Riverside, CA.

JoAnne was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and Nana.  She showed her love in a quiet manner, with open ears ready to listen, give caring advice or a shoulder to cry on. She gave generously without ever expecting anything in return, and never wanted to burden anyone with her sorrows and worries.  She was a kind and soft-spoken woman, who loved doing for others, and always made holidays and birthdays extra special occasions for her loved ones.

Besides spending time with her family, she enjoyed doing crafts, sewing, shopping, gardening, decorating for the holidays and home improvement. Most days, if she was inside, her television would be on HGTV, as she kept busy on one project or another. She took extreme pride in her beautiful home and spent countless hours doing home improvement projects, and tending her garden, over the almost 30 years she and Russ lived there.  Many neighbors and passersby would often comment about how much they loved the home, and it looked like a "photo from a magazine".  Her creativity always kept her busy.

All of her pets were precious to her; past and present. Friends and family would often joke that if they were reincarnated, they would like to come back as one of her pets. Over her lifetime she had many; horses, dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, goats, rabbits, birds, tortoises and fish. Many of her pets were rescues, and you could find her almost daily at the dog park.

She is survived by her two daughters Tiffany (Robert) Martin of Henderson, NV, Krista (Kyle Hammond) Gilmore of Boulder City, NV; three grandchildren Owen, Connor and Lucy.  She is also survived by her two dogs, Chance and Nellie.

JoAnne will be cremated and placed with her husband at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.  Family and friends can sign an online memorial guestbook at www.bouldercityfamilymortuary.com
