Patrick Douglas Crouse Obituary

Patrick Douglas ‘Doug’ Crouse, 77

Patrick Douglas ‘Doug’ Crouse, of Valentine, Nebraska, died at home on April 7, 2022.

Doug was born September 16, 1944, to Patrick “Pat” and Mary (Klitzing) Crouse. He attended country school in Box Butte County and graduated from Alliance High School in 1962. Doug enjoyed FFA and rodeo during his high school years and after graduating enjoyed a short college stint at the University of Nebraska and later served in the National Guard.

Doug married Jarolyn Wenzlick in Alliance, on September 27, 1969. They had two children – J.D. and Cyd. Doug ranched on the family ranch and worked for the Alliance Sale Barn before they moved to the Valentine area in 1981. Doug continued to ranch south of Valentine for a few years, and then started DD Cattle buying with his good friend Don ‘Doc’ Williams.

Doug loved good cattle, good cattle dogs, Lincoln Continentals, old people and children. He got great joy out of a good game of cards, buzzing his airplane, spending time with his grandkids and making strangers laugh. He had great appreciation for the Sandhills and the cattlemen and women that lived there — and beyond.

Doug is survived by his two children; J.D. and Amy Crouse of Fredericksburg, Texas; and Cyd Crouse and Niels Caminada of Enkhuizen, the Netherlands and three grandchildren, Clay, Avery and Ellie Crouse. He also leaves behind his special friend Janel Schubauer, and his sister Sandy (Mick) McCarthy, brother Steve (Paula) Crouse, sister-in-law Mickie Hebbert, brother-in-law Rusty Beaman along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Doug was preceded in death by his wife Jarolyn Crouse and parents – Pat Crouse and Mary Didier and brother-in-law Dave Hebbert.

The family chose cremation. The memorial service will be 2:00 PM CT April 20, 2022, at the Cherry County Fairgrounds in Valentine. Pastor Scott McClellan will officiate. Memorials are suggested to the Valentine Volunteer Fire Department, Valentine FFA, or the donor’s choice. Cards may be sent to the Crouse Family at PO Box 811, Valentine, NE 69201.
