John 'Jack' Ronald Murray Obituary

John R. (Jack) Murray was born in Grande Prairie, Alberta the youngest of five children and the only son. He met his future wife Rosalie (Sheridan) at church trying to find a seat for her and ironically she ducked into another pew when he wasn’t looking. He won her over and they were married May 2,1960 and moved to Calgary, Alberta. In February 1961 the twins were born, and January 1963 they were blessed with another son.

Jack worked for the Alberta Wheat Pool for 29 years and retired in 1989. He enjoyed bike riding and was one of the first to have an electric bike. Many a weekend in the summer he would cycle around communities in search of classic VHS cassettes to add to his collection that he would find at garage sales. One of his favourite movies was The Sound of Music with Julie Andrews. He enjoyed gardening, both vegetable and flowers, and many neighbours and friends were amazed at the peonies he could grow.  A “jack” of all trades, he took on many home renovation projects, including building three garages. Thus inspiring his children with valuable skills.

Jack also spent much time writing letters to express his passion for causes.

A man of great faith, he volunteered at St Luke’s Parish, which included various ministries such as ushering during masses, assisting with the Sunday collection, and being part of the counting committee.

Jack was a 4th Degree Knights Of Columbus.

Jack was predeceased by his lovely wife Rosalie of 52 years in 2012; three of his four sisters: Eileen Wald (William Wald), Jean Haguewood (Jack Haguewood), and Joyce Flynn (Bernard Flynn).

He is survived by his three children Kevin Murray (David Freeman), Maureen Gold (Ken Gold), Desmond Murray; his sister Vivian Smith (Frank Smith); three granddaughters Kaleigh Gold, Taryn Gold, and Hannah Gold; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to the staff of Unit 72 at the Rockyview General Hospital, Dr. Saars and Dr. Gitten.
