James "Jim" Anthony Vasher Obituary

Vasher, James “Jim”

Hamburg, Michigan

His Legacy… James “Jim” Anthony Vasher, 94, passed away April 8, 2022. He was born on June 4, 1927, in Detroit, Michigan to Leroy and Emma (DeGouvera) Vasher. Jim lied about his age to enlist in the Navy during WWII. He spent 6 years with the Navy, having a tour in Japan and being stationed in Hawaii for part of it. He married the love of his life, Ruby Swearingen, on September 1, 1951, in Annapolis, Maryland. They returned to Michigan, where Jim worked for Detroit Edison for many years, first as a tree trimmer, than a lineman. He spent many years as a meter reader, but retired as a supervisor. Jim started his own business doing income taxes in Hamburg, which he did for many years. An avid sportsman, Jim enjoyed hunting, and fishing, and was a member of the Sportsman Club for some years. Jim loved sports; he attended Tiger’s opening day, and held season tickets for Michigan Football. He was an umpire for an adult softball league. As a proud veteran, Jim had been a member of the local VFW in the past. He also was an Oddfellow for a time. Jim was known for his honesty; he leaves and example to all those who knew him, on how to live with integrity. He was a loving husband, devoted father, beloved brother, cherished grandfather, and dear friend to many.

His Family… Jim will be missed by his children, Jill (Everett Shoats) Stiger, Jack (Lori) Vasher, David Vasher; siblings, Mary Patricia (William) Bluett, Shirley Lupi, Roy (Audrey) Vasher, Arnold (Jenny) Vasher; grandchildren, Diane Vasher, James Shoats, Michael Vasher; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife Ruby, brother Leo Vasher, and his parents, Leroy and Emma Vasher.

His Farewell… Jim’s family and friends will gather privately to remember him. Memorial contributions are suggested to American Legion Post 419 Pinckney. Please leave a message of comfort for Jim’s family at 1-877-231-7900, or sign his guestbook at www.borekjennings.com.
