Carol Jean Markham

Carol J. Markham, 90, of Mason City, Iowa died on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at the Mercy One North Iowa Hospice. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the chapel at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania, Mason City, IA. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service time. Memorial may be directed to Homestead Assisted Living, 2501 W. State Street, Mason City, Iowa 50401. Carol was born on June 27, 1931 in Austin, Minnesota to Russell and Mable Hildreth. She graduated from Austin High School and on March 10, 1951 Carol married Donald R. Markham moving to Mason City. They became life long members of Trinity Lutheran Church. Carol taught Sunday School at Trinity and was a member of Mothers Club and a women’s circle. She was also a member of KW PEO Sisterhood. Carol and Don were owners of Culver Hahn Electric Supply and Design Lighting Center. She was a stay -at- home mom raising their four children. She so enjoyed church groups, playing bridge with her friends and her very special birthday group. Carol looked forward to wintering at her condo in Florida and summers at their cottage on Clear Lake. Carol was preceded in death by her husband Donald J. Markham in 1985, her parents, Carol’s sister Yvonne Hammer, brother-in-law Lloyd Hammer, and nephew Brian Hammer. Left to cherish her memory are her children Christine A. Picken (Dave) in Surprise, AZ, Diane K. Fenchel (David) in Clear Lake, IA, Brenda J. Sorensen (Dave) in Marion, IA, and Craig D. Markham (Amy) in Mason City. Also her 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. A very special thank you is given to Homestead Assisted Living and Mercy One North Iowa Hospice and their extraordinary caring staff that provided such loving care during her journey.
