Richard R. Thompson, age 82, passed away April 6, 2022, at Woodside Manor in Ashwaubenon. He was born January 16, 1940, in Ashwaubenon, son of the late Ralph and Esther (Peterson) Thompson. He attended Green Bay West High School, graduating with the class of 1958. He attended University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, graduating with the class of 1965 with a bachelor’s degree in Education, and Northern Michigan University, graduating with a master’s degree in education in 1970. On May 6, 1961, Richard married the late Jeanne Valaske at Trinity Lutheran Church, Green Bay. She preceded him in death on March 18, 2012. They shared 51 years of marriage together. Richard and Jeanne were the founders of Thompson Homes, Inc. He was a teacher in Green Bay from 1965 until 1978. Richard carried on the legacy of his parents by continuing the Green Lake Legacy for future family generations. He was a member of the Green Bay Downtown Rotary Club.

Richard is survived by three children: Troy (Rene’) Thompson and their two children Christopher (Kelly) Thompson and their children, Jayden and Emily; Paul Thompson and his special friend Tracy Williams; Paige (Joe) Van Elzen and their children Kejel (Alex) Vandeven and their child, Beckett, Hunter Van Elzen and his special friend Emily Isselmann, and Kolten (Rose) Van Elzen and baby girl Van Elzen; and Leif (Courtney) Thompson and their children Maverick, Milania and Paxton. He is also survived by one brother and sister-in-law Gary (Cheryl) Thompson; one sister and brother-in-law Barb (Glenn) Parma; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Kay (Don) Sterling and Kris (Roger) Lytle, as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Jeanne Thompson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leland and Lorraine Valaske; and one sister-in-law Patricia Bruskey.

A memorial service will be held on April 28, 2022, at Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Avenue, Green Bay at 6:00 pm with Pastor Earl Vorpagel III officiating. Visitation will be held at Lyndahl Funeral Home from 4:00 pm until the time of service at 6:00 pm.
