LORNA LUNA (ANDERSON) SNAVELY

SAN MARCOS – Lorna Snavely, 74, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 1, 2022 at Palomar Medical Hospital in Escondido. She was born on March 8, 1948 in Cavite City, Philippines, and was the daughter of Julita P. (Aventurado) Anderson and Ray “C” Anderson.

Lorna spent her youth growing up between two United States Naval Bases in Sangley Point and Cavite City and attended school at St. James Catholic Convent in Manila before moving to the United States when she was 9 years old. She fluently spoke Tagalog and English, and graduated at the top of her class in 1965 at Cobleskill High School. She moved frequently with her military family across the United States and overseas. She took great pleasure in telling stories of her time in the Philippines, Guam, South Carolina, Rhode Island, Hawaii, New York, Texas and Idaho before she finally settled down in Southern California in 1986. Lorna held many various jobs, including but not limited to, Sealy Posturepedic (as a seamstress), the Blackfoot Police (as a dispatcher), Pillsbury (in agricultural service), and L3 Communications (as a circuit board assembler for military aircraft). Before she retired, she was employed at Harrah’s Rincon (as a rewards specialist), where the staff thought of her fondly. She would entertain us with stories of participating in beauty pageants in her youth and working as a go-go dancer.

She was very much in tune with the spirit world and considered herself to be a medium - reeling us all in as she recited her experiences. Lorna cherished flowers – especially orchids and roses. She loved to gamble at Valley View Casino, and was extremely proud of her black card status. She adored cooking (pouring herself into creating dishes comparable to a 5-star Michelin restaurant – both in quality and quantity) and baking cookies, especially at Christmastime. She enjoyed her word puzzles, reading, singing, and dancing (especially the hula). Lorna was well-traveled, visiting many state parks and almost every state within the American continent. She favored her vacations to the Hawaiian Islands and Bora Bora.

She treasured spending time with her beloved family; and showering them with gifts and love. She had a young soul and was selfless, upbeat and a whirlwind of positivity. Her excitement to see you, her smile and infectious laughter could turn your entire day around. She was the type of person that would give you the shirt off her back, and then take you shopping for whatever else you needed. She took care of everyone and would stop at nothing until everyone’s needs were met. She was an amazing woman, kind, loving, fun, wise, empathetic, brutally honest, loyal, compassionate, generous, spiritual, and imaginative and is a tremendous loss to her entire family and all that loved her. She will forever be remembered as the heart of our family.

Lorna is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Paul L. Snavely of San Marcos, CA; her daughters, Lorna Lisa (Mike) Bernard of Escondido, CA and Wendy Lou Adams of Cobleskill, NY; her grandchildren, Ashley Vivian Dawn Higgins of Cobleskill, NY; Jasmine Lauren (Justin) Emerson of St. George, UT; Ariel B. Adams of San Marcos, CA; Zachary Adam Portolano of Escondido, CA; Jacob Adam (Lauren) Clouse of Escanaba, MI; and two great-grandsons, Titus William Emerson and Silas Jay Emerson both of St. George, Utah. She is also survived by her brother, Leroy Anderson, of Smithfield, UT; niece, Destiny Anderson and nephew, Andrew Young both of Blackfoot, ID and niece, Tawny Mortensen of Clearfield, UT. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her stepson, Justin Snavely of Encinitas, CA; sister, Jody Rae (Anderson) Young of Yucca Valley, CA and nephew, Damien Young of Blackfoot, ID.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 10th at the Williamsburg Clubhouse, 1197 Whispering Water Drive, San Marcos, California. Lorna’s ashes will be scattered in Kauai at a date and time to be determined by her family.
