Samuel Dave McDaniel, Jr. Obituary

With heartfelt sympathy we announce the celestial transition of Deacon Samuel Dave McDaniel, Jr. of Pell City, who went from labor to reward early on Sunday morning April 3, 2022 at the blessed age of 92.

Samuel Dave McDaniel, Jr. was born January 29, 1930 in Riverside, St. Clair County, Alabama to the union of the late Samuel Dave and Luvada Allen McDaniel, Sr. as the sixth child and the second son.  He was educated in the St. Clair County School System.

“Owl”, as he was affectionately called, accepted Christ as his Lord and personal Savior at First Baptist Church of Riverside, AL, where he served as a deacon.

Samuel believed in the unity and sacred union of marriage and that a man should not be alone. He united in the bonds of holy matrimony to Edna Earl Samuel and this union was blessed with Saundra. He united in the bonds of holy matrimony with Ellen Ruth Wilson and this union was blessed with Shirley Faye. After her demise, Samuel united with Arvline Smith who blessed him with sons, Levan, David and Terry. Being a widow yet again, Samuel united with Annie Tucker in marriage and their union was blessed with their baby, Shaqueta.

While being married to Annie, Samuel united with Greater Grace Church of Ashville after attending a revival with Bishop Charles Williams ministering. This is when Samuel began a new life in Christ and was filled with the precious Holy Ghost. From then on, Deacon Samuel would tell his family, “Baby! I was drunk! I was drunk, but you got to have the Holy Ghost.”

Early Sunday morning on April 3, 2022, Deacon McDaniel met his Savior face to face. He was preceded in death by his wives, Ellen Ruth, Arvline and Annie; son, Terry; siblings, Judy B., Maue, Laura, Bernice, Amos, Elworth and Elizabeth.

Those left to cherish his many fond memories are his children, Saundra (Benjamin) Wallace, Rochester, NY, Shirley Faye (the late Edward) Wheeler, Colorado Springs, CO, Levan (Dorothy) McDaniel, Spring Lake, NC, David (Carolyn) McDaniel, Pell City, Shaqueta (Chaz) Vessie, Talladega, AL; daughter-in-law, Gloria McDaniel-Anderson, Birmingham, AL; step-sons, Henry Tucker, Florida, Earl Tucker, Pell City, AL; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

“Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.” ~ John 3:5-7
