Barbara Evans, age 91 of Webster City, IA, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2022, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge, IA. A Memorial Service for both Barbara and her husband, Bill, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Webster City. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Foster Funeral and Cremation Center is entrusted with the services.
Barbara Ann Johnson, daughter of Virgil and Esther (Hanke) Johnson, was born on February 25, 1931, in Arthur, IA. She graduated from Early High School in 1948 and then received her degree in education at Wayne State Teachers College in Wayne, NE. She taught 1st and 2nd grade in Holstein, IA.
On September 23, 1953, Barb was united in marriage to William Elmer Evans at the Immanual Lutheran Church in Early. This union was blessed with four children: Laura, William, Jon, and Benjamin. Barbara and Bill lived in California and Nebraska before settling in Webster City where they resided for 53 years. Barbara taught at and was the school director for St. Paul’s Lutheran Preschool for 20 years. She was passionate about working with children and this was a perfect job for her.
Barbara is survived by her children: Laura (Craig) Lentzkow of Yorkville, IL, William “Bart” Evans of Overland Park, KS, and Jon (Mary Jane) Evans of Eden Prairie, MN; grandchildren: Alison Parker (Brian), Kathryn Rotella (Joe), Erik Lentzkow, Spencer Shavers, Jordan Evans, Cody Evans, Madison Evans, and Jackson Evans; four great-grandchildren; many other extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, William Evans on January 22, 2022; son, Benjamin Evans; sisters Shirley Lou Johnson Harbor and Lois Jane Johnson Dilks.
Barbara was a very active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Webster City and served in the LWML for many years. She loved life and everyone loved her. She put her positive energy and happiness into everything she did, always making people feel comfortable and loved. Barbara loved to entertain family and friends especially her famous Thanksgiving celebrations. She also enjoyed camping,
especially at North Shore, spending winters in Yuma, AZ, and gardening. Most of all, she loved every moment she was able to spend with her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
