Albert F. Swetel

<p>Albert F. Swetel, 77, of Kent, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center.&nbsp; He was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA on October 12, 1944 to the late Victor and Marion (Lawson) Swetel and was a graduate of North High School in Eastlake.&nbsp; Albert went on to earn an Associate&rsquo;s Degree from Lakeland Community College and Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree from Kent State University.&nbsp;</p> <p>He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, from 1966-1970.&nbsp; He was then employed as an Ohio State Highway Patrolman in Ravenna, before pursuing a career in manufacturing, where he held a variety of management positions.&nbsp; Following retirement, Albert worked as a substitute teacher in Portage County.&nbsp; He volunteered at the Board of Elections, attended St. Patrick Catholic Church and enjoyed bike rides, cruises and vacationing in Hawaii, where he especially enjoyed hiking Diamond Head.&nbsp;</p> <p>Albert was a member of American Legion Post #496 in Kent, where he was a former Commander and Honor Guard Chaplain along with several other positions.&nbsp; He was very proud of his Lithuanian Heritage and was a member of The Lithuanian Club in Cleveland and Eagle&rsquo;s Aerie #2436 in Chagrin Falls. He was an avid fan of Kent State Men&rsquo;s Basketball, Kent State Football, the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians.&nbsp; He enjoyed deer hunting with his family, reading, and John Wayne movies. Albert will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.</p> <p>He leaves his loving wife, Debra Swetel; daughter and son-in-law Heidi and Charles Waligura; sons and daughters-in-law, Victor and Terry Swetel and Mark and Corey Swetel; grandchildren, Kayla, Alana, Maxwell, Jolene, Ian and Ethan; and sisters, Patricia Hollis, Ruth Munjas and Jane Vanik.</p> <p>Visitation will be Tuesday, April 5, 2022 from 10:00AM-11:00AM at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home, 628 W. Main St. Kent, OH 44240 followed by the funeral service at 11:00AM.&nbsp; Burial, with military honors, will follow at The Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, OH on Tuesday at 1:00PM.&nbsp;</p> <p>In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made, in his name, to American Legion Post #496 Honor Guard, 1945 Mogadore Rd.
