Edward Rudolph Hanson Obituary

Edward Rudolph Hanson, 71, of International Falls died on November 9, 2009 at Rainy Lake Medical Center. Edward was born on February 15, 1938 in International Falls, Minnesota to Rudolph and Alice Hanson. He attended Catholic school from the first through eighth grade and graduated from Falls High School in 1956.Edward attended Duluth University from 1956-1957 and worked for Mando for two summers while attending college and then worked in the beater room after college. In 1961, he enlisted in the U.S. Army - his service time included attending Officers' Candidate School and training at a Nike missile site. He spent five years in the Army Reserves and was honorably discharged as a first lieutenant in the late 1960's.Edward was united in marriage to Pamela Titus on October 3, 1962 in Hibbing, Minnesota. They lived in Manhattan, Kansas while Edward was in the service. In the fall of 1964, he began working for the Minnesota and Ontario Paper Co. in International Falls. Edward worked in several areas but spent most of his almost 40 years working on the paper machines. During that time, he served as vice-president for 2 years and then as president for 2 years of Papermakers Local 59 before becoming a full-time supervisor and retiring in July of 2004.Edward was an avid gun enthusiast and spent many hours at the cabin in Birchdale. He enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, deer hunting, gardening, boating and watching Nascar racing. He did some competition racing in his early years and won some trophies, too. He loved to bake rye bread and had a regular route for his friends. Edward was a life member of the National Rifle Association and a member of the Elks.Edward was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Daniel Cowlishaw.Edward is survived by his wife, Pamela; son, Scott; daughter, Leah (Gordon) Cowlishaw McMurray; grandson Hunter Rancourt, all of International Falls and brothers, William (Barb) Hanson and Mike (Myrna) Hanson. He will be deeply missed by all his special friends from "The Club".Memorial services will be held on Friday, November 13, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in International Falls.Condolences may be left at www.greenlarson.comArrangements are with Green-Larsen Mortuary, Inc.
