Betty Jane Whittaker Obituary

Betty Jane Whittaker, 78, of Grover Beach, California passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 after a valiant battle with lung cancer. She summoned all her strength, stayed positive, and never complained throughout it all.

Betty grew up in Grover Beach enjoying the sand dune roads, catching horny toads, and spending time having fun in Pismo Beach. She attended local schools in Oceano, Pismo Beach, and Arroyo Grande. In youth and young adulthood she enjoyed playing softball, roller hockey, and women’s roller derby. She loved music especially songs sung by Elvis Presley and Jimmy Swaggart. Dancing to songs of her youth brought her great pleasure. She was always happy to dance a little jig, swing, twist, or twirl.

In 1959, Betty married Kenneth Whittaker, her devoted  husband of almost 63 years. For 25 years, Betty bowled with her Tuesday morning team at the Pismo Bowl. Betty’s main focus throughout her life was her family. Whether it be for triumphs and success, or trials and tribulations, Betty would always be there  to support any member of her family, immediate or extended. Most of her adult life was spent being a homemaker while occasionally working a part-time job because she enjoyed it and the friends she made. Over the years, Betty and Kenny built several custom homes designed to their liking to enjoy the good life. Kenny would call Betty a Fairy Princess or Miss Prissy, because he treated her like one.

Betty Whittaker is survived by her loving and devoted husband of almost 63 years Kenneth Whittaker of Grover Beach, Daughters: Kimberly Mills and husband Larry of San Luis Obispo, Kristie Whittaker and fiancé Caleb Russell of Chino Valley, Arizona, and  Son: Jeffrey Whittaker of Santa Maria, Grandchildren: Lindsay Mills, Joshua Mills and wife Kyndra, Colton Mills, Kelsey Prevatt, and Grant Prevatt, Great-Grandchildren: Callie Prevatt and Paisley Alba, Sisters: Shirley Allcorn and Karen “Kay” Oliveira, nephews: Lester Allcorn and wife Kelli, Gary Allcorn and wife Karen, Chad Oliveira and wife Amie, Richard Oliveira and Niece Jennifer Ney and husband John  and Baby Puppy Roxy. Betty is predeceased by her parents Cleo and Ruby, daughter Janice, and brothers Cleo Jr., Gary, John, and Tommy. Betty’s family will have a small private family service to celebrate her life.
