Services to honor and celebrate the life of Sandra “Sandy” (Maggart) Guinn will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2022, in the RiverCrest Chapel at Bixby-South Tulsa Funeral Service. Family will receive friends for visitation on Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sandy passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2022. She was 83.
Born July 2, 1938, in Clyde, Texas, Sandy was the first of three children gifted to Woodrow “Doc” and Mildred Pauline (Bookout) Maggart. Raised in Borger, Texas, Sandy played in the school band and proudly accepted the honor of being “Band Queen” her Senior year. While in school, Sandy met Jerry Guinn. The two became high school sweethearts. They would marry September 14, 1958, in Borger, and were able to celebrate 48 wonderful years of marriage before Jerry passed away in 2006 – much too early.
Devoted to her family, Sandy demonstrated many acts of love as she took on the role of a young wife. Shortly after Sandy and Jerry were married, they moved to North Carolina, while Jerry served in the Marines, and then a brief stint back to Texas before the couple established their lives and home in Oklahoma City - where Jerry found his calling working on the OKC Police Department.
Becoming a mother was certainly at the top of her list of accomplishments. She was proud of her children Ginger and Jay and her love and devotion to family simply grew as her family did. She adored her son-in-law, Dennis who assured she had everything she needed, and especially her grandchildren: Angie, Tiffany, Mariah, and Lee to include her great grandchildren Carter and Landon! Her dog Maggie was a true companion to her as well.
Sandy enjoyed working at the Daily Oklahoman and served as a tour guide for individuals or groups. Additional words that help to describe Sandy include caring, sassy, sweet, selfless, and one who never met a stranger. There is no doubt that Sandy loved people unconditionally.
Sandy could be found gardening, reading, or spending time with groups that were dear to her such as the Retired Police Officer’s Association, Mabrey Bank’s Horizon Club, the Survivor’s Club for Widows, and the Bixby Bunco group. She also enjoyed traveling to Mt Rushmore, Yellowstone, and taking an Alaskan cruise.
Sandy was also a woman of faith and although her time on earth has come to an end, her family takes great comfort in knowing that she is now at Home with her Savior. Sandy passed from this life on Wednesday, March 30, 2022. She was 83.
She was preceded in death by: her parents: W.B. “Doc” and Mildred Maggart; her husband, Jerry Guinn and by her brother-in-law, Robert Holloway.
She is survived by: her children: daughter, Ginger Graham and husband, Dennis; son, Jay Guinn and wife, Sherri; grandchildren: Angie Fann and husband, Jason; Tiffany Reed and husband, Josh; Mariah Guinn, and Lee Guinn; great-grandsons: Carter and Landon Reed; sister, Linda Holloway; brother, Woody Maggart and wife, Sally.
