Obituary

On March 26, in her 84th year.  Sonya was born in Toronto and as a young lady she brightened many stages as a comedic dancer.   She met a young Billy Mannerow while they were attending the U of T.  Although she believed Owen Sound to be almost the ends of the earth, she married and accompanied Bill here to raise their family with love and humour.  They lived on the shores of Georgian Bay for over 40 years.  After Bill’s death, Sonya bought a place in town, and renovated it to suit her exquisite taste.  She spent many happy days sitting in her beautiful back yard with her dog Bella and her grandkids were always welcomed with a big hug and a bright smile.  Sonya was a dog lover, affectionately called the "crazy dog lady".  She was hardly ever seen without a very spoiled pooch by her side.

Although many knew her as Bill’s white knuckled first mate and a down-encased snowmobiler, where Sonya truly shone was in the halls of the schools where she worked, playing bridge with her friends, on the beaches collecting shells and shark teeth, exploring the many antique stores of England to find another doll and of course on the streets of New York shopping for that perfect piece of jewellery or “bedazzled” sweater.   While merrily leading her faithful friends astray she was often heard saying “This is the last time we will ever be here!”

Sonya was a courageous, determined and loving person who brought much joy and laughter to everyone she met.  She will forever be lovingly remembered by her children Suzanne, Michele (Paul Osadzuk) and Wendi (Tim McBride) as well as her wonderful grandchildren Christian, Arenn, Jamie and Will.  Sonya is predeceased by Bill, her husband of 43 years, and her brothers Bev and Bill Grasser.

A very special thank you to Dr. Diodati, the nurses and staff at the Wiarton Hospital and Gateway Haven in Wiarton for providing such wonderful care and compassion for Sonya over this past year.

Donations would be appreciated in honour of Sonya to the Lutheran Church of Our Saviour Owen Sound, the Owen Sound Animal Shelter and the Wiarton Hospital.

A graveside service for Sonya will be held at a later date.
