Lloyd Scott

Lloyd M. Scott, 90, was born September 7, 1931 in El Dorado, KS the son of Stephen L. and Helen E. (Garabrandt) Scott. He graduated from El Dorado High School with the class of 1950. After graduation, he entered the US Army, serving in Alaska. He was a member of the 50 Below, after maneuvers on Kodiak Island and achieving the rank of Corporal. Lloyd received an Honorable Discharge in 1953. On May 29, 1953, he married the love of his life, Ruth J. Higgins, in Miami, Oklahoma. Lloyd’s work career started with the railroad extra gang, moving to the oil field as a driller for White & Ellis. He then went to work for Union Tank Car Company as a welder, where he retired after thirty-five plus years. After retirement, he worked for McIntosh Welding, one of his favorite jobs. Lloyd was known as a hard worker, a craftsman and could build or fix about anything. He and Ruth helped so many family and friends, but none more than his son and family. His hobbies included wood working, which he and Ruth spent many hours in the shop creating some beautiful items that are still being used and enjoyed today. Lloyd loved sports, both playing and watching—especially watching his son, granddaughter and great-grandkids. He and Ruth rarely missed a game. He was an avid KU Basketball and KC Chiefs fan. Lloyd is survived by son Rick (Terri); granddaughter Darci Awtrey; great-grandkids: Reagan and Grady Scanlon; nephews: Frank Williams, Bill Higgins, Steven Higgins and Don Callaway; nieces Helen Verrino, Jeanie Alfaro and Wilma Higgins. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth; parents, Stephen and Helen Scott; stepmother, Clara Winslow Scott; sister Ethel Williams and her husband Marion “Bud Williams, in-laws Jim and Hattie Higgins, brother-in-law Leroy Higgins and wife Doris; sister-in-law Emma Finey and her husband Monta, and nephew, Jim Higgins. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Good Shepherd Hospice or to the Midwest Braves Baseball Organization. Friends may gather from 5-7 pm on Thursday, March 31 at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 1 at 1pm at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home.
