Marion Walker Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Marion Manning-Walker announces her passing. Marion passed away at the Lions Manor Nursing Home in Placentia on Saturday, March 26th, 2022, at the age of 76. Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories full of endless love and dedication is her only child, Tammy Walker(Neil Smith), also her sisters Madeline Manning and Gail Manning, her nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and support workers.

Marion is predeceased by her husband John Walker, parents Adell and James Manning, sisters Ellen Mary Higgs , Rita O’Brien , Pearl Cummings, Adell Pilon , and brothers Allan Manning, Andrew Manning , Clarence Manning, Leo Manning, and James Manning.

For those that really knew her, they knew she was the pillar of her family. She was always there to help, protect, and support. Her time, talent, support and intelligence were poured limitlessly to her daughter, her mother, her brothers, sisters , nieces, nephews and friends. She was always there to help someone who needed some wise advice, support, help with paperwork, or just needed to talk. She enjoyed nothing more than a few smokes, a great chat and a cup of tea while dispelling her wisdom on whatever the topic at hand.

She was generous and loving. She was like a nanny to her great grand nieces and nephews (Brad-Nicholas Edwards, Damian Roul, Desire Roul and Taylor Manning). Her patience with children was boundless. She would love to watch them play and would turn her house into a playland to make sure they were having fun and felt loved and special. Marion was also a dedicated, hardworking and loyal employee that would go beyond the expectation of the job.

First and foremost, Marion’s main role was always that of a dedicated mother. This poem resonates.

MY MOTHER

My mother is a woman like no

other. She gave me life, nurtured me,

taught me, dressed me, fought for me,

held me, shouted at me, kissed me, but most

importantly she loved me unconditionally.

There are not enough words to describe

just how important my Mother is to me and

what a powerful influence she continues

to be. Mother, I Love You.

The struggle with dementia is a long process of mourning the person you know long before they pass from this earth, as their personality and memories are challenged, and the person you know slowly disappears. Marion is now at peaceful rest reunited with her husband, parents and siblings.

Even during failing health over the last number of years, Marion was adamant to be at home in Lawn. Thank you to the various home care workers who made this possible. Special acknowledgement and thank you to Kate Edwards whose support evolved into a true friendship.

Thank you to the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre for providing superior medical care in her declining health over the past number of weeks.

Since her placement at the Lions Manor Nursing Home in Placentia over two weeks ago, the staff have been nothing short of amazing. Going above and beyond to ensure her final days were spent in comfort and immersed in compassion.

In honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Holy Name of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Lawn on Tuesday, March 29th, 2022 at 10:30am. Inurnment to follow at Holy Name of Jesus R.C. Cemetery.

In Marion’s memory donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
