Thomas J. Beahan

Thomas J. Beahan, 80, of Carbondale Township, passed away peacefully on March 22nd at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton surrounded by his family following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Carol Galavitz.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late Eugene and Anna Everling Beahan, he was a 1959 graduate of Saint Rose High School, Carbondale. After graduation he served in the United States Army.  He was a member of the Primitive Methodist Church in Jermyn and also enjoyed attending services at Parker Hill Church.

He started his career with Cavage Construction and was instrumental in laying some of the first developmental roads in Pike County. Tom loved construction work and the smell of fresh blacktop. He was then employed by PA Gas and Water Company, and later by UGI prior to his retirement.

He spent twenty years following his retirement enjoying volunteering and spending time with the residents of Bethany Village, where he made many friends. He was a wonderful provider and loved by all who knew him. He enjoyed hard work, many home improvement projects, and working outdoors, but mostly he enjoyed his family. He was an extremely giving man who always helped others.

The family would like to thank the physicians, nurses and staff of Geisinger CMC for their excellent care, treatment and compassion, especially the PCU and palliative care staff during his last days.

Tom is also survived by his two sons Thomas “Timothy” Beahan and wife Laurie, Bethany; John Beahan and fiancée Karen Swift, Carbondale Township; two brothers-in-law: Thomas and William Galavitz, both of Carbondale; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Eleanor Forbes and Ann Marie Kitzmiller.

Many thanks also to all of their friends and family for the many phone calls, flowers and food.

In Tom’s spirit of always giving, he donated his body to the Humanity Gifts Registry for anatomical study and research.  A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday April 2nd at 10 am at the Primitive Methodist Church, 763 Jefferson Avenue, Jermyn.  Calling hours at the church will begin at 9 am until service time.   Arrangements by the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale.
