Brian Steven Black Obituary

Brian Steven Black was born November 29, 1973 in San Jose, CA and passed away on February 20, 2022 in Folsom, California. He was 48 years young.

When Brian was two years old, he moved with his family to Durham. Brian loved sports. He played soccer, Little League Baseball, swam for the Durham Dolphins and was a member of his high school football and golf teams. After high school, Brian attended Butte College and Sacramento State University.

Brian discovered at a young age that he wanted to make videos. He was so fortunate to be able to pursue his passion by spending his professional career at CalPERS in the Video Production Department of the Public Affairs Division. Brian was very proud of work he created and the people he was fortunate to work with throughout his career with CalPERS.

Brian was a curious and creative man. He was always learning and experiencing new places and things. He loved traveling to Maui, camping and his annual fishing trip to Trinidad with his brother Adam and other family members. He would always bring home fish and crab which he shared generously with his parents!

Brian will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, his amazing memory, his birthday messages to everyone, his April Fool’s jokes, his special bond and deep love for all his family and friends, his love of traveling, his first night dive with Uncle Steve in Maui, and for his dedication as an employee to his employer and to his profession. But most importantly, he will be remembered as a loving husband and a dedicated father.

Brian leaves a hole in the lives of so many. He always found a unique connection with each person that crossed his life path and he will be greatly missed by them all.  These friendships have been an exceptional support system for Jennifer and River and will continue to be cherished by them.

Brian is survived by his wife Jennifer, his son River, parents Jim and Cindy Black, sister Brandie Ross (Cory), sister Laura Clark, and brother Adam Black (Bree). He held his nieces and nephews Avery, Kendall, Luke, Wyatt, Brodie, Lulu, Charlie, Slade and Gigi close to his heart and loved them all. He is also survived by many aunts and uncles; Jan, Steve (Therese), Barbara (Loedwik), Scott (Kerry), Deb (Dave) along with his many cousins; Jenny, Michael, Lindsey (Lakshya), Haley (Jason), Namette, Kris (Matt), Andrew (Tanya), David, Shannon (Simon), Matthew (Helene), and Christopher (Erica).

There will be a celebration of Brian’s life on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at 12:00 PM. It will be held at Our Lady of Grace School Hall, 1990 Linden Road, West Sacramento, CA. In lieu of flowers the family is kindly asking for donations to River’s college fund. Donations can be made to www.ugift529.com using code S7K-J9U.
