Nancy L. Doane was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and Gi-Gi during her 89 years of life. She has a new body, free of ailments, as she joined her Lord & Savior during the early hours of Friday, March 18, 2022. She was born in 1932 to John and Nadine Locke. Her father was a prominent Canton Attorney, meeting Nadine Decker from Canton South and making their home at Lockeridge Farm on Fulton Drive. Staying in touch with her Locke and Decker families was important to Nancy.
After graduating from Jackson High School, Nancy attended one year of college at the Greenbrier in West Virginia and then The Ohio State University where she was a member of the Tri Delta sorority. It was there where she met the love of her life, fellow Buckeye Jim Doane, while he was in the ROTC.
After their storybook wedding at Lockeridge, Jim joined the Air Force and Nancy had Deborah, Catherine, and Julie in diapers simultaneously, while moving from base to base. The family adventures are too numerous to mention, involving world travel with Nancy as the glue that held the family together.
She managed to maintain a social life while keeping up with her girls including but not limited to the Airline Pilots Association Women’s Group, Tri Delta Alumnae, Jackson High School Alumnae, numerous bridge groups and country clubs including Brookside of Canton. Nancy was always active in a local Church wherever Jim’s career would take them. She was long-time member of John Knox Presbyterian Church in Canton and most recently the First Baptist Church of Sarasota.
Preceding Nancy in death is her husband of 58 years, Jim Doane and her beloved daughter Catherine (Joseph). Surviving her are daughters; Deborah (Steve) Yost and Julie (Tom) Wichert. Son-in-law; Joe (Julie) Joseph. Grandchildren; Janie (Mark) Geis, Daniel (Julia) Yost, Lauren (Aaron) Miller, Zara (Justin) Bowsher-Yost, Kaitlyn (Devin) Kelley, and Benjamin Joseph. Great-grandchildren; Taylor, Jesse, Kendall, Lina, Emmett, Kip, Hovey, Charlotte & Kid. Brother-in-Law; John (Candy) Doane.
Nancy will be remembered for her outward and inward beauty. She constantly displayed the love she had for Jesus by her generosity, hospitality, and her radiant joy and humor despite numerous health issues throughout her life.,
