Mr. George Wyatt Banks, age 83 formerly of Lincolnton, GA passed away Friday, March 18, 2022 at his home in Savannah, TN.

He was born July 3, 1938 in Lincolnton, GA, the son of the late Peyton Wyatt and Mary Cordelia Goldman Banks.  At the young age of 16, he left Lincolnton to find work at the Milliken Mill in McCormick, SC.  Shortly thereafter, he found his niche in the construction industry. There, he started off as a laborer and ended his career as a project superintendent for Blount Construction Company. During his retirement, he was hired as a consultant for Rust Engineering.

Throughout his career, he traveled all over the country. While he was out West, he got into showing and racing pigeons and won several races along with several awards for best show. Later, when he moved to Tennessee, he started raising horses, bought some land and lots of horses where he bred paints and quarter horses.

Wyatt was a Master Mason of RUFF lodge #240 AFM,  a strong supporter of St. Jude Children’s Hospital, and a dedicated member of the Bodies in Motion Gym in Savannah, TN where he worked out everyday. He found pleasure in life being around family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Lizzie Mae Quarles Banks of Savannah, TN; daughter, Teresa Gail Goldman Collier and husband Jeff, and their children Houston Skylar Collier and wife Haley and Shelby Jordan Collier Blackwelder and husband Logan and their daughter Claire Maddux all of Savannah TN;  daughter, Sonja Wynette Banks Fox and husband Luther and children Alanah Ruthanne Fox Maroney and husband Matt and their daughter Sophie Ruthanne of Saluda SC and Keely Maelynn Fox-Deloach and husband Austin of Athens GA; granddaughter, Melaine Marie Banks daughter of his deceased son George Wyatt “Buddy” Banks II of Saluda SC; also four stepchildren, Mike Golden and wife Pat of McCormick SC, Marian Miller and husband Billy of South Carolina, Carol Templeton and husband Jean of Michie, TN and Beverly Goldman of Savannah, TN.  18 grandchildren, and 25 great- grandchildren; siblings, Mary Lou Guillebeau and husband Roy, Patricia Mays and husband Ken, and Franklin Banks.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peyton and Mary Banks; his son, Buddy Banks and his sister, Judy Banks Bradley Harris along with his step-brothers, Tommy Guillebeau and William Guillebeau.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 2 pm at Bethany United Methodist Church with interment following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1pm until the hour of the service in the church.
