Anthony E. Boyk, 88, of Middlefield, (formerly of Troy Twp.) passed away peacefully Saturday morning, March 19th, 2022, at home. He was born in Cleveland, OH on December 2nd, 1933, to the late John S. and Frances (Wlodarczyk) Boyk. Anthony married LoisAnn Renner on February 14th, 1994.
Anthony as a youth attended St. Casimir Church in Cleveland, Ohio where he was an Altar Boy. He then attended St. Benedictine High School (which he was quite proud of) up to the Eleventh Grade. At that time, he left his Grandparents to join his Parents and Brothers who had previously moved out to the ‘Country’, that being Troy Township in Geauga County. Once there Anthony, his Mother, Father, and his three brothers joined St. Edwards Catholic Church in Parkman. Anthony attended Eleventh Grade at Troy High school. Due to the closure of Troy High School he had to attend Burton High School where he Graduated in the ‘Class of 1951’. Tony played Football, Basketball, and Track & Field at both schools of which he ‘Lettered’ in Football, Basketball, and Track & Field his Senior Year.
After graduation Anthony started his own Trucking Company hauling Coal, Slag, Sand, and Gravel. Years later he worked IBM and Sherwin Williams in Cleveland. Most of his working career he spent in the ‘Civil Construction’ industry as a ‘Construction Equipment Operator’ working for several Northeast Ohio construction companies such as Cary & Zeigler Excavating, George Stone Construction, Cleveland Trinidad, Schloss Paving, and Ronyak Brothers Paving. In 1981 he left the ‘Civil Construction Industry’ and set off to help his brother Lawrence to start and become part owner of ‘Larry’s Discount Auto Parts’ established in Naples, Florida where he lived until 1991. Anthony then moved back home to Troy Township where he worked once again for Schloss Paving until he retired in 1994. Even though he left the ‘Civil Construction Industry’ for close to ten years he continued to be a member of ‘International Union of Operating Engineers Local 18’. On December 2nd, 2013, Anthony was recognized by the ‘International Union of Operating Engineers’ for achieving 50 years of membership with Local 18.
When Anthony was not working, he enjoyed helping family and friends with what ever they were undertaking and needed help with. In addition to that he enjoyed cutting trees and working in the woods at the family homestead and his old house, affectionately referred to as the ‘Cottage’. Anthony also enjoyed the occasional fishing excursions he would go on over the years. When Anthony was in his early 20’s he enjoyed ‘Souping Up’ his Hotrod Model A Ford. Anthony was also proud to be a past member of the Troy Twp. Zoning Board and selected as ‘2017 Mr. Troy’ at the Troy Homecoming.
The virtue that would exemplify Anthony the most would be that of ‘Charity’, the ‘Highest Form of Love’. Only Anthony, Our Lord, and those that Anthony helped, know the many acts of ‘Charity’ he performed during his humble, just, and righteous life.
Anthony will be sadly missed by: his best friend and loving wife of 28 years, LoisAnn; brother Norbert (Nancy) Boyk; nephews, God son, Joseph (Analyn) Boyk, Mark Boyk, Michael Boyk, John (Amy) Boyk, Christopher (Tiffany) Boyk; nieces, Regina “Gigi” (Dale) Spicer, Lisa (Mark) Pollari; 23 grandnieces & grandnephews; 5 great grandnieces & great grandnephews; step-children, Jeffrey (Candace) Renner, Laurie (Mark) Bevington, Larry (Andrea) Renner, Sherri (Mike) Dolgner, Cindy Renner; sisters-in-law, Gladys Boyk and Mary Lou Garver (Joel); 9 step-grandchildren; 18 step-great-grandchildren, and many friends.
