Judith Ann Davis Obituary

Judith Ann (Mayfield) Davis died on March 19, 2022. She was born on the Ides of March (15th) in 1942 the daughter of Fred and Rosenell (Hutson) Mayfield of Wolf Summit. Her parents and an infant brother, Fredric Melvin preceded her in death.


She graduated from Bristol High School, Fairmont State College and West Virginia University. She is survived by her children, Kendra Huggins (Willard Shaver) of Coalton, WV; Kristen Andrews (Jeff Andrews) The Rock, GA; and Steven Huggins, Houston TX and her husband Larry Johnson, Coalton, WV. Also surviving are six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.


Judy taught at the Reform School for Boys in Pruntytown; Mount Garland Elementary School in Buckner, Virginia; and the remainder of her teaching career at Flatwoods Elementary in Flatwoods, WV. She enjoyed playing piano and organ; teaching children old songs and tales of folklore. Her main interests aside from teaching included sharing her music, investigating local history and writing poetry. She left two books for people to enjoy-Rhymes & Riddles of a Country Teacher and Just Roll Over and Go Back To Sleep.


She enjoyed meeting new people, teaching Adult Sunday School, playing the piano/organ for services; and spending time with her family and her dogs which she also loved.


The family would like to thank Davis Memorial Hospital, Dr. Davis and WV Caring Hospice staff for their compassionate care.
