<p>Dr. Floyd Wilson Jr.,PhD, age 58 of Grand Rapids, MI transitioned Tuesday, March 15th, 2022 at Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital. A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, March 22nd, 11:30 AM, at Messiah Missionary Baptist Church, 513 Henry Ave SE, Grand Rapids MI 49503. Pastor Daniel Smith will be officiating, burial will follow at 3:30 PM at Woodlawn Cemetery. Dr. Wilson was born October 7th 1963 in Birmingham, Alabama to Floyd Wilson Sr. and Lucy Ann Wilson and was raised in his hometown of Saginaw, Michigan where he met and married his wife Yolanda Faye Wilson in 1987. They later began their family in Grand Rapids, Michigan to raise their three children: Floyd Wilson III, Garrisen Kamille Wilson, and Zachery Thomas Wilson. He started his educational journey by obtaining his high school diploma from Saginaw Arthur Hill in 1981, which would soon be followed by many other degrees from: Grand Valley State University, B.S in Occupational Safety and Health Management; Western Michigan University, M.S. in Human Resources Management; Central Michigan University, B.S. Biology and Chemistry and Doctor of Healthcare Administration. Among his high academic achievements such as being inducted into the Golden Key International Honor Society at Central Michigan University, Dr. Wilson ended his academic career with a PhD and honors also having his dissertation titled &quot;The impact of the Affordable Care Act on non-urgent emergency department visits&quot; published in the European Journal of Public Health published by Oxford University Press. Not only was Dr. Floyd Wilson Jr., PhD a man of faith, a husband, a father, and an elite academic achiever, he was also a cornerstone in the Grand Rapids and the greater community; investing his time, knowledge, and passion serving on several boards including: Experience Grand Rapids Board Chair and Member, Goodwill Industries of Greater Grand Rapids/ International Board Member/Board Chair/Trustee, Fulfilling the Dream Celebrity Open Honorary Chair of the Open and Key Member of Operating Committee and Co-Leader of the Business Leaders Summit, MaryFree Bed Rehabilitation Hospital Board Member, West Michigan Policy Forum Board Member, Grand Rapids-Kent County Convention/Arena Authority Convention Visitor&rsquo;s Bureau Appointee, Gerald R. Ford International Airport Vice Chairman of the Board, and Samaritans Board Member. Dr. Wilson has been awarded several achievements in his lifetime such as: Father of the Year (issued by the American Diabetes Association), and Giant Award, Walter Coe Public Services (issued by Grand Rapids Community College), and so many more. Dr. Floyd Wilson Jr., Phd. put the essence of his life into the hearts and minds of his children, creating a legacy that will live long past his grandchildren&rsquo;s children. He was a mentor and advocate to several other young black men and women. Dr. Wilson stood firm on the belief that black men, specifically black fathers should be present and accountable to the overall care of their families and children no matter what, he also financially invested into single black mothers so that they could have support and the care for their children. Dr. Floyd Wilson Jr., PhD was a man that believed in ownership and entrepreneurship and left no bullets in the chamber. His motto was Health, Wealth and Happiness, &ldquo;Always two or three more good pushes&rdquo;. He truly capitalized on his springtime of youth. He believed in accountability, hard work, and gave no excuses. Dr. Wilson always said if you can&rsquo;t master the small things, how can you master the big things? He is survived by his loving Wife of 34 years, Yolanda Faye Wilson; three children Floyd Wilson III (eldest son - &ldquo;starter kit&rdquo;) and wife Brieanne Sue Wilson; Garrisen Kamille Wilson (only daughter - &ldquo;only hope&rdquo;), and Zachery Thomas Wilson (youngest son - &ldquo;last chance&rdquo;) and significant other Janai Brianne Smith. Three grandchildren Maxwell Joshua Ryan Miller, Floyd Wilson IV and Baby Wilson who is on the way. Mother, Lucy Ann Wilson; siblings, Lillian McCall (sister) and husband Rodney McCall, Ricky Wilson (brother) and wife Beveline Wilson, Rodney Wilson (brother) and wife Sheri Wilson, Cheryl Conerly (sister) and husband Keith Conerly and Vincent Wilson. Dr. Floyd Wilson Jr., PhD was preceded in death by; Floyd Wilson Sr. (dad); siblings; Reginald Wilson (brother), and Debbie Wilson (sister).</p>
