Joseph Edward Nichols, 80, of New Salisbury, died Saturday, March 12, 2022, at Harrison County Hospital in Corydon.  He was born March 29, 1941, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Floyd Sr. and Catherine Bieler Nichols.  He was retired from the maintenance department of Public Service Indiana, was a member of Corydon Baptist Church, was a charter member and past officer of the Ramsey Lions Club, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Korea just after the Korean Conflict.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Michael Simler; his brothers, Bill, Floyd, Jr., Harry, Larry and Benny Nichols; and his sister, Bev Nichols.

 

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Leola Faye Crecelius Nichols; his sons, Matthew J. Nichols (Tammy) of Greenville, Indiana and James K. Nichols (Tina) of Corydon; his daughter, Lynnette F. Simler of New Salisbury; his brother, Keith Nichols (Trini) of Vista, California; his grandchildren, Andrew Simler (Ashton), Alaina Donley (Chase), Evan Nichols, Magdalena Nichols, Christopher Nichols, Dalton Nichols (Falon), and Ellen Nichols (Ethan Wells); and his great grandchildren, Kaden, Chelsea, Camden, Colt, Kennedy, Charlea Rose, Calvin, and Brooks.

 

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Corydon Baptist Church.  Pastor Keith McWhorter will officiate.  Burial will be in Heidelberg Cemetery near Corydon.

 

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon and after10:00 a.m. Thursday at the church.

 

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to Corydon Baptist Church, 2454 Hwy 337 NW, Corydon, Indiana 47112.

 

Pallbearers will be Christopher Nichols, Dalton Nichols, Andrew Simler, Evan Nichols, Chase Donley, and Ethan Wells.
