Ursula Luise Wehrli Wayman, 86, of Saratoga Springs, peacefully passed away Friday, March 11, 2022 in her home, surrounded by loved ones. Ursula was born May 18, 1935 in Zurich, Switzerland to August and Anna Hirt Wehrli. She married Reid Lee Wayman on June 6, 1954 in the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple.
Ursula spent her early years as a “city girl” in Zurich, Switzerland, but spent many enjoyable days hiking the alps with her father, collecting rock and mineral specimens and riding trains. She developed a special love for her motherland and the freedoms she enjoyed there, especially as she watched war in the surrounding countries during WWII. She learned to knit very young and became the family provider of all things knitted, a talent she carried with her all through her life.
In 1949, Ursula immigrated to the United States of America with her parents and two younger siblings, settling first in Idaho and later in Salt Lake City. She attended East High School and later Brigham Young University where she enjoyed singing opera and X-country skiing. There she met and married Reid Lee Wayman.
They made their home in Provo, UT for a time and then Reid took the “city girl” out to the farm on West Mountain near Payson, Utah, where they raised their “six daughters who each had a brother,” surrounded by orchards, gardens and farm animals. She taught her children to work hard and serve others, through her teachings and her example. She continued her education by taking summer and night classes until she finally graduated from BYU just before the birth of her fifth child.
Ursula loved learning, especially about the gospel of Jesus Christ and she spent thousands of hours researching her Swiss ancestors and participating in saving ordinances in the temple.
She served faithfully in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with her favorite callings being Ward and Stake Librarian, Family History Consultant and a Relief Society teacher.
Reid and Ursula moved in 1983 and began again with orchards on the west side of Utah Lake and were later instrumental in forming the city of Saratoga Springs. They had the most amazing view of Mount Timpanogos and the entire Utah valley from their front deck.
Ursula suffered from the devastating effects of rheumatoid arthritis for over half of her lifetime. She was left with severe and crippling pain. She maintained a positive attitude and tirelessly looked for nutritional methods of easing her symptoms and pain.
She is survived by her seven children: Cherie (Chris) Eskridge, Lincoln, NE, Natasha (David) Schaeler, Queen Creek, AZ, Lisa Ann (Eric) Hickman, Colfax, CA, Craig Eric (Michelle) Wayman, Saratoga Springs, UT, Margo (Bill) Carlson, Las Vegas, NV, Michelle (Shawn) Harley, American Fork, UT, and Rebecca (Dave) Neal, Bella Vista, AR; sister, Elisabeth (Ray) Helms, Dewey, AZ; thirty grandchildren and fourty-three great-grandchildren. She prays and plans for no empty chairs!!
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Reid Lee Wayman, four sibings, Margaretha, Hansjorg, Gustav Alexander and Otmar, and two grandsons, Jeremy Craig Wayman and Joshua (Whitney) Schaeler.
Ursula genuinely loved the people she associated with, both in Payson and in Saratoga Springs. She is joyously greeting the loved ones she knew on earth and the ancestors she searched for so diligently.
