Obituary

Carol Anne Perzy (nee Casper), age 83, of Litchfield, OH passed away on Friday, March 11, 2022, in Medina, OH from complications of dementia and cancer.  She was born in Berea, OH on April 4, 1938.

As the owner of Greenfield Gardens in Litchfield, she was a pillar in both the community and her church, Our Lady Help of Christians parish. She never shied from tackling social justice causes and through her work with the Catholic Commission of Wayne, Ashland and Medina counties, impacted many lives. Her faith in God was the cornerstone of her life.

After graduating in 1956 from St. Joseph Academy in Cleveland, she attended St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, IN and finished her education at Baldwin Wallace. But her love was always the earth and she often said that she was just a dirt farmer. Just is not adequate. She educated her friends and neighbors about organic farming and container gardening for years before it was trendy. She was ahead of her time. During the 1970s, she operated a family roadside vegetable stand, Perzy’s Produce, which was the foundation for her expanded business, Greenfield Gardens.

She was a long time 4H leader for the Litchfield Friendly Workers and taught countless First Communion classes throughout the years.

She was an enthusiastic hostess and loved a good party, especially if there was going to be wine. She joked that she loved to cook with it, and sometimes even put it in the food. Her dinner parties were events involving themed foods, appropriate décor, and authentic clothing. She was truly the “Martha Stewart” of Medina County.

Carol is survived by her daughter, Kim Urig (Chris) of Minneapolis, MN; her sons; Dave (Mindy) of Ashland, OH and Doug (Lisa) of Ocala, FL as well as four grandchildren, Libby and Maddy Urig and Louie and Layla Perzy. She also is survived by many dear friends and extended family members. Her memory lives on in all the hearts she affected.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mary ( nee Rados), and her brother, Walter “Corky” Casper.

Her calling hours will be on Thursday, March 17 at Bauer Funeral Home from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM.  2089 Columbia Road, Valley City. Because Carol always loved St. Patrick's Day, we encourage everyone to dress in green, accordingly. She will love that. As a lifelong Notre Dame fan and a St. Mary's alumni, the Irish have always been special to her.

Her funeral mass will be the following morning, Friday, March 18 at Our Lady Help of Christians Parish at 10:30 AM located at 9608 Norwalk Rd., Litchfield OH. A luncheon will follow.

The family requests donations to Trials for Hope, 4321 Bridge Avenue,  Cleveland, OH 44113 in lieu of flowers.
