James Edward Green, Jr. Obituary

With heartfelt sympathy we announce the earthly transition of Mr. James Edward Green, Jr. of Birmingham, who traded time for eternity on Friday, March 11, 2022 at the age of 39

Mr. James Edward "JJ" Green, Jr. was born on January 31, 1983, in Odessa, Texas to the late Jessie Jean Woods and James Edward Green, Sr. He was educated in the Ector County Independent School District and graduated from Permian High School in 2001. After graduating high school, James moved to Memphis, TN to continue his education at LeMoyne–Owen College. He was very involved in various organizations during his college tenure; and in 2003 he was initiated into the Beta Xi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. James received his bachelor's degree in 2005. Shortly after graduation, James met the love of his life, Jonathon Wyatt, and moved to Cedar Bluff, AL. James and Jonathon were united in Holy Matrimony in 2018.

James became affiliated with several churches in Cherokee County, AL before making New Life Christian Church his church home. He was a humble and hard worker for the ministry until he moved to Birmingham, AL to begin a new career path. James was employed in the administration department of Miles College and was the coach for the Miles College Golden Stars. After leaving Miles College, he became a Human Resource Administrator for Dwell & Décor Outdoor in Calera, AL.

James was a man of many talents. He was a very loving, caring, and selfless man who always ensured that everyone around him was well taken care of. He loved to dance, decorate, laugh, travel, and sing Beyoncé -- as he was a very faithful member of the Beyhive.

His life was a living example of strength and perseverance from the Bible verses 2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:7‬ and Galatians 5:25: ‭‬"FOR WE WALK BY FAITH, NOT BY SIGHT: As you take steps of faith, depending on Me, I will show you how much I can do for you. If you live your life too safely, you will never know the thrill of seeing Me work through you. When I gave you My Spirit, I empowered you to live beyond your natural ability and strength. That's why it is so wrong to measure your energy level against the challenges ahead of you. The issue is not your strength but Mine, which is limitless. By walking close to Me, you can accomplish My purposes in My strength."

James entered his eternal rest on Friday, March 11, 2022. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jessie Jean Woods; his grandparents, George and Dorothy Jean Woods; his aunt, Arrica Green and his uncle, John Bush.

James is survived by his husband, Jonathon Wyatt of Birmingham, al; his father, James Green, Sr. of Wiggins, MS.; his brother, Gregory (DeShonna) Adams; his sister, Brian'e Woods, both of Odessa, TX; his mother-in-law, Johna Long Wyatt of Cedar Bluff, AL; his nieces, Jayeden Wells and Maleigh Long, both of Cedar Bluff, AL; his nephews Demazio'n Woods and Javariane Beck, both of Odessa, TX; Kendall and Keelan Long, both of Silver Creek, GA; Keishaun Quarles of Ft. Payne, AL; his aunts, Sherley Taylor of Odessa, TX; Gloria Calicutt of Odessa, TX and Wanda Green of Wiggins, MS; his uncles, Preston Eugene Cockerham and Morris Calicutt, both of Odessa, TX; DaVesh Green of Wiggins, MS; his step-father Eric Lewis of Odessa, TX; as well as a host of cousins, in-laws, friends, and colleagues -- all of which he loved and touched deeply.
