Barber of Buckhead, GA passed peacefully in his sleep on March 10, 2022.</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;"><strong>He was born in Chicago, IL on October 27, 1933, to Havery S. and Dorothy Billington Barber.&nbsp; He spent much of his childhood in Hayward, WI where his love of fishing began.</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;"><strong>In 1955 he entered the US Navy which brought him to Charleston, SC where he met the love of his life and Soulmate who became his wife Mary Stills Barber.&nbsp; They were married for 63 years, and he still called her &ldquo;His Bride&rdquo;.</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;"><strong>He spent over 31 years in the US Navy where he received the following medals.&nbsp; Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal (3 Stars), Commendation Action Ribbon; National Defense Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnamese Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Action Medal, Expert Pistol Ribbon.</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;"><strong>While serving he was stationed at Great Lakes. IL for Bootcamp &ndash; RTC, A School Philadelphia, PA, USS Ashland (LSD-1), Armed Forces Police, Charleston, SC, Search &amp; Rescue, Adak, AK, USS Preston (DD-795), USS Preble (DLG-15), Warrant Office School, Newport, RI, USS Rockbridge (APA-228), OINC USS Dynamic (AFDL-6), USS Independence (CV-62), Assault Craft 62, FTG-GTMO, Operations Officer NTC-Orlando, Executive Officer RSG-Mayport.&nbsp; He was also a proud member of The Military Bassmaster&rsquo;s.</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;"><strong>Although he had a busy military career, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and six children.</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;"><strong>He shared his love for outdoors, fishing, camping, animals, gardening, barbecuing, traveling, history, and baseball with all his children.&nbsp; When his grandchildren came along, he had the amazing opportunity to do it all over again and teach all his grandchildren.&nbsp; He was loved and admired by all his family.</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;"><strong>He was preceded in death by his loving Parents Harvey S. and Dorothy B. Barber and his Daughter In-Law Linda Diane Barber.</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;"><strong>He is survived by his Wife, Mary Evelyn Stills Barber, His daughter Donna Quarles (Kenneth) Crossville, TN, son Edward Barber Rutledge, GA, son Robert Chavous Augusta, GA, daughter Patricia Melton Buckhead, GA, daughter Cynthia Harvey (Carl) Buckhead, GA, daughter Cheryl Morrow (Jay) Hoover, AL&nbsp;</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;"><strong>Surviving Grand-Children, Tommy Ward (Jamie), Jennifer Beatty (Preston), Tabitha Cowart (Dan), Kenny Quarles (Hailey), Chad Wiggins, Diana Keys, John Dighton IV (Hannah), James Melton (Aning), Tiffany Harvey, Justin Harvey (Jenny), Stephen Lian, Christina Jensen, Brandon Morrow (Ashleigh).</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;"><strong>His loved ones also included many of his great-grandchildren that he loved dearly.</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;"><strong>Our father never met a stranger. CDR. James W. Barber of Buckhead, GA passed peacefully in his sleep on March 10, 2022.

He was born in Chicago, IL on October 27, 1933, to Havery S. and Dorothy Billington Barber.  He spent much of his childhood in Hayward, WI where his love of fishing began.

In 1955 he entered the US Navy which brought him to Charleston, SC where he met the love of his life and Soulmate who became his wife Mary Stills Barber.  They were married for 63 years, and he still called her “His Bride”.
