It is with a bittersweet heart we inform you of the death of Shirley Hatten who passed on March 5, 2022, at 5:30 am in her home. It's bitter because as with all deaths we will miss our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. It's sweet because we know she will be going to her eternal home where she will be welcomed in the arms of Jesus and will get to meet up again with her husband Bob.
Funeral service will be on Monday, March 14, 2022, at 3:00 pm at the Toledo Christian Church. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, at the Toledo Christian Church on Monday. Burial will be in the Brush Creek Cemetery. The Barkley Funeral Chapel in Toledo, IL is assisting the family with arrangements.
Shirley was born October 21, 1940, in Toledo, IL to Estal and Edna (Young) Burton. She married Robert C. Hatten on November 29, 1958, and he preceded her in 1997. Survivors include children Bobbie (Randy) Paul, Gary (Tami) Hatten, Rhonda (Steven) Manning, Lora (Wayne) Foster, Jeff Hatten, Ron (Seberina) Hatten, and Amy Abbott; sisters, Ruth Wolke, and Pauline Yocum; 18 grandchildren, and 14 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Don Burton, and two sisters, Sara Nell Lawhorn, and Wanda Cooper. Shirley was a homemaker and for 25 years was a custodian for Toledo Christian Church.
She lived a full life dedicated to the Lord and her family. She kept herself young (21 years old no matter what year you asked her age) by helping the family by canning green beans, tomatoes, apple sauce, and occasionally squirrel every summer. And she was always glad to have her kids and grandkids involved in the garden and canning process! She had a giving and loving heart and would do anything to help others. Earth may have lost the best pineapple cheesecake maker around, but heaven gained her and we know she will be watching over us.
Memorials can be made to the Toledo Christian Church. Online condolences can be expressed at www.barkleyfuneralchapels.com
