Rev. Margaret "Peggy" Herr Spengler Obituary

Rev. Margaret “Peggy” Herr Spengler, 79, of Mechanicsburg and formerly of Etters, PA, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022 in UPMC Pinnacle West Shore Hospital, Hampden Twp. with her loving family by her side. She was a “semi” retired United Methodist Pastor in the Central Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church for more than 29 years and served in many pastoral positions as well as serving in several other roles, most currently as Prayer Minister for New Cumberland through Trinity United Methodist Church. Pastor Peggy was born in Harrisburg to the late Nelson and Margaret (Herr) Spengler. She was a graduate of Harrisburg Area Community College; Penn State; and received her Master’s in Divinity from Duke University’s School of Divinity, Durham, NC. She was an active volunteer throughout her career and most recently gave of her time and talents by volunteering with Vickie’s Angel Foundation, New Cumberland. She enjoyed gardening, watching Jeopardy and enjoying time with her grandchildren. Pastor Peggy is survived by her children, Susan J. Sederes and husband David of York Haven, Jennifer L. Burnett and husband William of Sicklerville, NJ and David P. Aikens of Dover, PA; siblings, Nelson W. Spengler, Jr. of Summerville, SC, Ross G. Spengler of Fernandina Beach, FL, David S. Spengler of Hopkinton, MA and Nancy Kay McDonnell of Cary, NC; and six grandchildren, Alec, Cody, Mackenzie, Zackary, Hunter and Madison. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, March 11, 2022 in Trinity United Methodist Church, New Cumberland. Viewings will be Thursday night from 5-7 pm in Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland and again one hour prior to services Friday in the church. Burial will be in Fishing Creek Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery, Etters, PA.
