Afton June Ponder Obituary

Hamlin-Afton June Ponder, 87, passed away March 4, 2022, in Abilene.  Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2022, at the Hamlin First Baptist Church.  Burial will be in Hamlin Memorial Cemetery, directed by Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home. 

Born April 3, 1934, in Rule, Afton was the daughter of the late Warren and Pearl Frazier. She graduated from Aspermont High School in 1951. She married the love of her life, Doyle Lee Ponder. They were happily married for fifty-three years. She was member of First Baptist Church in Hamlin since 1961, where she was a Sunday School teacher, GA Leader, Vacation Bible School Teacher, and a member of the Friends Sunday School class.  She was also a leader for 4H and Blue Birds. Afton was a wonderful wife, mother, and Mimi.  She loved to cook for her family, friends, and church events.

Afton is preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Pearl Frazier; husband, Doyle; and eight siblings, Lula Faye Hinze, Eunice Chambless, J.W. Frazier, Lee Owen Frazier, Darwin Frazier, Jean Frazier, Billie Abbott, and Frank Frazier.

Survivors include her four children, Kathy Mowrey (Bruce) of  Plano, Vickie Messer (Michael) of Arlington, Karen Copeland of Hamlin,and Scott Ponder (Tory) of Haskell; nine grandchildren, Jacob Mowrey, Jillian Williams, Jacey Leek, Jared Leek, Holly Hindash, Mitch Leek ,Candace Afton Camacho, Ashlee Ponder, and Cam Ponder; eleven great grandchildren, Brianna Leek, Trey Hindash, Skye Leek, Hayden Mowrey, Presley Hindash, Liam Mowrey, Bransan Doyle Leek, Grayson Mowrey, Vale Afton Camacho, Jameson Leek, and Maisyn Leek.
