Chuck Morel, 71, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 1, 2022, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Charles Joseph Morel was born May 15, 1950, to Francis and Madeline (LeFevre) Morel in Moline, Illinois. After graduating from Moline High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and received a Purple Heart while serving in Vietnam. Chuck was united in marriage to Catherine Naughton on April 22, 1972, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rock Island, Illinois. The couple moved to DeWitt in 1973. He worked 15 years at John Deere Davenport Works. He then worked as a sales rep. for Rock Island Distributing, and later in sales at D&D Chevrolet, DeWitt. Chuck found his true passion working with youth at Assumption High School, retiring in 2012.

Chuck was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, the Knights of Columbus, Eugene McManus American Legion Post #238, and the Vietnam Veterans Association. He enjoyed attending his Bible study groups, hunting, fishing, playing Euchre, gardening, caring for his lawn, golfing, camping and a nice cold beer. Family was everything to him and he lived every day for his grandkids. He was the ultimate Papa.

Surviving are his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Cathy; children, Steve (Angela) Morel of Rock Island, Illinois, Michelle (Steven) Martens of DeWitt, and Jenny (Rhett Foley) Morel of DeWitt; grandchildren, Connor and Ellie Morel, Christopher and Laura Martens and Kaitlyn Sloan; honorary family, Bucky and Andrea Vinson and their daughters, Ashley (Logan) Jebson, and Maddie and Avery Vinson; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Gene (Diane) Morel, Frank (Sandy) Morel, and nephews, Mike Morel and Frankie Morel.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeWitt. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2022, in the church, the Rev. Fr. Stephen Page officiating. Interment and Military Rites following in the church cemetery.
