Robert Henry Wright Obituary

Robert Henry Wright Chantilly – Robert Henry Wright, 64, of Chantilly, VA, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at home and in his sleep in the early hours of the morning. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. Bob leaves behind the most important thing to him in life, his family. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Gail (Weingartner) Wright, his adoring children, Andrew Charles Wright and Kenneth Gordon Wright. He is also survived by his brothers Tom Wright and Gordon (Alisa) Wright and his aunt, Martha Wright Cole as well as nine nieces and nephews and two cousins. Bob was an agronomist, doing business locally as Masterturf, LLC and as a subcontractor to GameDay. His specialty was turf (grass) and he was one of the best at what he did for over 30 years in residential lawn care and area ball field turf management. He was grateful for the care he received through the network of doctors and nurses at Inova Fairfax Hospital and Inova Mt Vernon Rehab. They lovingly cared for him, encouraged him, and hoped for his recovery. But God was calling him and it was his time. His family is grateful for all the prayers said on his behalf through his battle with cancer. We feel very strongly that God answered our prayers by keeping him relatively pain free throughout the cancer, bringing his oldest son closer to home to assist his mother in caring for him, keeping his youngest son near for many visits, and allowing his wife the time to provide the loving care he needed as his disease progressed. Bob will be remembered by his many friends for his solid and loyal temperament. His family and friends knew they could rely on him. He was a man of honor and commitment. He was always willing to mentor and train others professionally, sharing what he knew over a lifetime in his profession. He was straightforward and honest. You may not have always liked his opinion, but you were always told the truth. He was a quiet man, and sometimes didn't vocalize his emotions and feelings to others. Instead, he showed his love and affection for people through his actions and gift giving. Bob would scrape the ice off of his wife's car in the mornings every winter so that she could drive safely to work. Once he drove to his son's college and waited eight hours for a moving company because no one else could. He did these things without being asked, and with no expectation of returning the favor. Bob loved the holidays because he loved to give gifts to his family. Christmas was always an exciting time in the household because he put a lot of time and effort into his gift choices. He enjoyed giving a good gift more than receiving one. Bob loved golf, sports, fishing, and computer electronics. He grew up playing golf and was a club champion at the Springfield Country Club in high school. Each summer his family took a vacation to Bob's parent's beach house in North Carolina. During these trips Bob loved to take his sons out fishing on his father's boat, and explore small islands. He was also interested in computer electronics, and passed down this interest to his two sons. One of his favorite hobbies was to build computers, and he would jump at the opportunity to replace one of his son's computers and help them build a new one. He died peacefully, having no ill will toward anyone and no unfinished business. After battling the cancer for seven months, his decisions were made and he was at peace with his life and his choices. He was able to just let go and slip away. Friends may call at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA, on Friday, December 18, 2015 anytime from 4 to 8 PM. Flowers are welcomed and contributions may also be made to a cancer charity of your choice.
