Derek Joseph McGovern, 40, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born September 20, 1981, in Wichita, Kansas to Michael and Marygrace (Gudenkauf) McGovern. He attended Collinsville High School. On October 1, 2004, he married Charee Spaid in Nowata, Oklahoma, where they made their home with their two children, Ty and Chesnee McGovern. They later divorced but, remained life-long friends.

Derek enjoyed spending time with his children and family, running equipment, working on the ranch. No matter what he was doing, he was up for a good time, and absolutely loved to catch a nap anywhere!

He will be missed by all who knew him.

Derek is preceded in death by his paternal grandpa; L.W. “Chuck” McGovern, maternal grandparents; Lawrence and Dorothy Gudenkauf, and one uncle; Don Gudenkauf.

He is survived by his children; Ty McGovern and Chesnee McGovern of Nowata, OK; father; Michael McGovern of Andover, KS; Grandma June McGovern of Andover, KS; his brother, Drake McGovern and wife, Shay of Nowata, OK; uncle; Brian Gudenkauf and wife, Lou of Claremore, OK, cousin; Jake Gudenkauf and wife, Dixie of Bartlesville, OK.

Funeral services for Derek McGovern will be held at the First Baptist Church in Nowata, 433 S. Mississippi St. on Monday, February 28, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. A family visitation will be held on Sunday, February 27, 2022, 1-7 pm at the Benjamin Funeral Service Chapel.
