<p>Carl W. Shaver, age 72 of Lombard, passed away on February 22, 2022.</p> <p>He was the beloved husband of 49 years of Patricia nee Thomasma; loving father of Ellen (Rich) Krasin of Germantown Hills, IL, and the late Linda (Chris) Shaver-Gleason of&nbsp;California; fond grandfather of Katelyn, Emily, Nico, and Linus; dear brother of Ruth (Stephen) Marotti of Michigan and Mary (Stephen) Trocke of Michigan. Fond uncle of 10.</p> <p>Carl was born in Michigan and moved to Lombard in 1979. He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after 39 years as a Car Retarder Operator in Proviso Yard. He was a former member of Faith United Methodist Church, and most recently a member of First United Methodist Church.</p> <p>Carl was a member of both the Lombard Historical Society and the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad Historical Society. His wealth of knowledge on train car history served him as well, as he authored several books, including &ldquo;Freight Car Equipment of the Chesapeake &amp; Ohio Railroad, August 1, 1937&rdquo; and &ldquo;The Pere Marquette in 1945&rdquo;.</p> <p>A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 2, at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church, 155 S. Carl W. Shaver, age 72 of Lombard, passed away on February 22, 2022.

He was the beloved husband of 49 years of Patricia nee Thomasma; loving father of Ellen (Rich) Krasin of Germantown Hills, IL, and the late Linda (Chris) Shaver-Gleason of California; fond grandfather of Katelyn, Emily, Nico, and Linus; dear brother of Ruth (Stephen) Marotti of Michigan and Mary (Stephen) Trocke of Michigan.
