Jaimie Williams Obituary

Jaimie Williams passed away on Friday, 28 April 2017, after a lengthy illness. She was 58. She was born in Dansville, New York and eventually moved to Laurel, Maryland. She graduated early from Laurel High School and then attended Anne Arundel Community College, where she earned an Associate's Degree in Office Administration. She was an executive secretary in the Government, first at the National Science Foundation in Washington, D.C. and then for the U.S. Air Force at Hanscom AFB, Massachusetts. She was an at-home mom when her children were younger. Later, she was a scheduler for Fairfax County Public Schools through the early 2000s. At Hanscom, she met her future husband while bowling in the base intermural league. Her team and his were battling it out for last place and they started talking. He gave her his business card, and she bravely called him. The rest, as they say, is history. She continued to bowl in military leagues for her entire life, and loved the comradery, competition, and the friendships she developed with her fellow bowlers. Even after she was disabled with a spinal cord injury in 2009, she continued to bowl and it continued to give her great pleasure. In high school and young adulthood, she was an all-around athlete and was an especially fierce softball player. Jaimie was always friendly and outgoing and people genuinely enjoyed talking with her and sharing a story or a laugh. She was a faithful friend and a sympathetic ear. She was a strong defender of her friends and family and of people who had been wronged. Referring to her bowling and to her personality, many people described her as "tough". Jaimie was an excellent cook and baker, and enjoyed trying challenging recipes. She liked using fresh ingredients from her vegetable garden, and also had a jungle of flowers on the back deck and elsewhere. She enjoyed arts and crafts and each year looked forward to visiting the seasonal craft shows in Northern Virginia. She is survived by her mother Hazel Sprague, by her brothers Dr. (Rev.) Michael Sprague and Thomas Sprague, by seven nieces and nephews, and by her lifelong friend Lynn Ferenc. She is also survived by her husband of 29 years, Stephen Williams, her daughters Jennifer Robinson and Samantha Williams, her son-in-law Jason Robinson, and her son Zachary Williams. She leaves her lasting love behind for them and for her three grandchildren: Anthony, Jade, and Tristen, who were a joy to her always. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Jaimie's life on Saturday, 6 May at Waterford at Fair Oaks, 12025 Lee Jackson Memorial Highway, Fairfax, VA 22033. The event will be from 1:00 to 4:00 pm with the observance starting at 1:30.
