Jerry Lee Talley Obituary

ZIONSVILLE ... Jerry Lee Talley, 82, former longtime Daleville resident, died Feb. 14, 2022, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.

Jerry Lee Talley was born March 24, 1939, in Noblesville, the only son of Alton and Pauline (Roudebush) Talley. The family moved to Daleville when he was an infant. He attended Daleville Schools where he played center on the Daleville Broncos basketball team throughout high school. Jerry graduated with the class of 1957.

Jerry Talley and the former Ann Cannon were married Aug. 8, 1959, in Elwood, by the Rev. Ewart Talley.

He had worked at Davis Fruit Farm in Daleville through his high school years and beyond for a total of nine years. He loved working in the outdoors and caring for the apples, peaches, plums, strawberries and vegetables that the fruit farm was known to produce. After graduation he was also employed at Borg Warner, Warner Machine and Westinghouse/ABB, Muncie, where he retired with 34 years of service in 1993.

Jerry loved practical jokes, home gardening, all sports but especially basketball, football, and NASCAR racing. He was easy to get to know and friendly to everyone, had a sense of humor that was infectious to everyone around and put everyone at ease. He never met a stranger.

He was a member of the Daleville United Methodist Church, past active volunteer and church school teacher; Daleville Masonic Lodge 730 F&AM, Daleville, Madison County Shrine Club, Anderson, Valley of Indianapolis Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine, Indianapolis, and Sons of the American Legion Squadron 446, Daleville.

He traveled for his job at ABB to Germany and Arizona to teach and troubleshoot.

He is survived by wife, Ann; son, Bob (wife, Tammy) Talley of Anderson; daughter, Cheryl Mattingly, Indianapolis; granddaughter, Jessica Talley; grandson, James Patrick "JP" Mattingly of Chicago, Illinois; two great-grandsons, Giovanni and Elijah; two stepgrandchildren, Jennifer (April) Everitt and Eric (Morgan) Everitt; two stepgreat-granddaughters, Brynlyn Rachelle and Avery Michelle Everitt; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Stevenson and Thelma (Don) Hatton; cousins, Joyce Bradley (Kipp) Scott of Noblesville, James "Jimmy" Talley (Betty) of Spring City, Tennessee; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Also surviving is longtime legion buddy, Denny and wife, Sandy Donovan; many others too numerous to mention; and longtime friend, Don Chambers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; aunt, Josephine (husband, Jim) Bradley; uncles, Worth “Hank” Roudebush and Russell Roudebush; in-laws, Fred and Mary (Schlegel) Cannon; and brother-in-law, Jack Stevenson.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022, at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 8212 S. Walnut St., Daleville, with Marty Ballard officiating. Burial will be in Crownland Cemetery in Noblesville.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 2022, and one hour before service Saturday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will take place at 8 p.m. closing the visitation.
