Stephen Thomas Franklin
Stephen Thomas Franklin, 40, of South Boston, Virginia, passed away on February 15, 2022. Born in Shreveport, Louisiana on May 9, 1981, and raised in Bossier City, Louisiana. He was the son of Stephen E. Franklin and Margaret (Patti) Franklin. He is preceded in death by his brother, Jason Barnett and grandfathers, Robert Franklin and Dennis Robertson. After leaving his hometown, Steve honorably served in the United States Navy for 10 years as an RSS instructor and rescue swimmer. While serving multiple tours of duty, he was awarded three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, the United States Navy Air Medal with Bronze Star, the honor of being named HSL 42 Sailor of the Year, and several letters of commendation. His family relocated to South Boston, Virginia, following his naval career. In the spirit of service, Steve continued to serve his community as a registered nurse who thrived in the fast-paced environment of emergency medicine. He belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary Unit Post 8 in South Boston. Steve was an avid Dallas Cowboys and LSU football fan, but nothing compared to the time spent coaching soccer for his beloved girls. His devotion to his wife and their two beautiful daughters was his greatest love of all. Steve is best known for making everyone around him laugh and for offering his shoulder to anyone in need. Everyone who knew Steve would tell you he never met a stranger and made lifelong friends wherever he went. Steve is survived by his loving wife, Celena, and their two daughters, Ava and Adelyn; his parents, Stephen and Patti; brothers, Kyle Thomas (Stacie), Robert Franklin (Jessica), Mike Ellerd (Ashley); sister, Christine Romagossa (Garett); as well as numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, beloved friends and military brothers in arms. He is also survived by a lady that held a very special place in his heart, his beloved Grandma Lucy. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
