Rudolph "Rudy" B. Smith, III, 85, of Upper Darby, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, February 8, 2022. He was the devoted husband of the late Danae L. (Slider) Smith. The couple married on February 14th, 1959, and sadly, she passed on September 10, 2021.

Born in Philadelphia on March 23, 1936, he was a son of the late Rudolph B., Jr and Kathryn E. (Keller) Smith. He proudly served his country in the US Navy.

Rudy was a member of St. Matthew’s Reformed Episcopal Church, Havertown. He was employed for more than 20 years as a school bus driver with the Lower Merion School District. He was a Master Mason and a member of William L. Elkins (formerly Keystone) Lodge #271 for more than 60 years where he served twice as Master of the Lodge. Rudy earned a private pilot license and enjoyed traveling and organizing cruises for friends. He was an organizer of the West Philadelphia Annual Neighborhood Reunion and served as secretary/treasurer. Rudy was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan.

Surviving is his son, Rudolph "Rudy" B. Smith, IV and his wife, Julie of Schwenksville and his daughter, Kathryn R. (Smith) Honea and her husband, Doug of Upper Darby; four grandchildren: Jill Frances (Honea) Childress and her husband, Jeremy of Corvallis, OR, Laura Elizabeth Honea of Upper Darby, Kathryn Marie (Honea) Roushey and her husband, Neil of Brookhaven, PA, and Anna Danae Smith of Downingtown; five great grandchildren: Leah Grace Childress, Charis Danae Childress, Neil John Roushey, Jr., Everly Cora Childress, and Stephen Davis Roushey and brother, David C. Smith and his wife, Judy of Bensalem.

Services for Rudy will be at 11am on Thursday, March 3, 2022, in Logan-Videon Funeral Home, 2001 Sproul Rd., Broomall, PA 19008. A gathering will be in the funeral home on Thursday, March 3rd from 10am to 11am.
