William Boyt Griffin Jr. Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the death of William Boyt Griffin Jr.,86, born on June 20, 1935 and passed away on January 23, 2022. He was a lifelong "Atlanta Boy". He graduated from Grady High School where he played football. He then attended Suwanne, "The University of the South" for two years before transferring to the University of Georgia. He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. After graduating from the University of Georgia, he joined the United States Navy and served our country before being honorably discharged in 1963. He then spent his entire career with C&S National Bank. He traveled the world being the Executive Vice President of the International Department. He married Mary Ann Campbell Griffin and they had three children. Sadly, Mary Ann passed away in 1991. Bill was an avid tennis player and golfer and was a member of the Capital City Country Club as well as the Piedmont Driving Club. He taught his children the love of tennis and they all played in tournaments throughout their childhood. He was also a lover of music. He played the guitar and banjo on the back patio with his dogs every night after work. Later in life, he and some fellow musicians created a group called "The Buckhead Rattlers" and played gigs all around Atlanta. Bill is survived by his widow Jean Somers Griffin, his son William Boyt Griffin III, a daughter Mary Griffin Douthit (Greg), and his other daughter Katherine Griffin Applegarth (Kit). He is also survived by five grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Griffin, James Gregory Douthit, Dr. Mary Katherine Douthit, Kendall Ann Phillips and Madison Ann Applegarth. He is also survived by one great grandchild, Noah Phillip McMeins. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Atlanta Humane Society.
