Roxane L. Miner, 82, of Benzonia, suffered a stroke on January 23rd and passed away on January 30th
. She was born December 8th, 1939, in Manistee, to Arnold and Ora (Hermanson) Anderson. She attended
Newland School through the 8th grade and graduated from Onekama High School in 1956. She graduated
from Central Michigan College in 1960. She started teaching in Benzie County in the fall of 1960, and
met Kenneth Dale Miner shortly thereafter. They were married at Norwalk Lutheran Church in Norwalk
on April 1st, 1961. He preceded her in death on July 29th, 2011.
Roxane and Ken spent their entire married life in Benzie County. They built and operated the North
Shore Party Store until they sold it in 1974, and she taught for 28 years in the Benzie Central School
system. She worked at the Benzie County Chamber of Commerce and was the librarian at the Benzie
County Library for many years. She continued to serve at the library in various capacities until her death.
Roxane was very involved in many aspects of the First Congregational Church of Benzonia United Church
of Christ. One of her main interests was development of the church library.
She is survived by her son, Edward Miner, of Beulah; two granddaughters, Brittany Hopkins, of Houston,
TX and Ashley (Michael) Young of Traverse City; three great-grandchildren, Bransen and Bryson Hopkins
and Arden Young; brother Duane (Sherry) Anderson of Onekama; and several nieces and nephews.
Roxane was also preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter SueEllen Miner; and son Andrew
Scott Miner. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Benzonia Public Library or a charity of
