Richard S. Doney, 79, of Hustontown, PA, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown, PA.
Born January 28, 1943 at Burnt Cabins, PA, he was a son of the late Jesse and Goldie (Nesbitt) Doney. He was first married to the former Nancy Knepper who preceded in death on February 17, 1987. He then married the former Jane Ramsey on June 20, 1992. Mrs. Doney survives at their home.
He is also survived by one son, Richard N. Doney and wife Barbara of Sabillasville, MD, one daughter, Laurie Doney of Baltimore, MD and three step children, Debra Whitsel and husband Brian of Orbisonia, PA, Linda Clark and husband Joseph of Three Springs, PA and Sherri Buterbaugh and husband Gerald of Hustontown, PA.
He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Richard W. Doney and wife Emily, Bryan Whitsel, Megan Booher and husband Tyler, Emily Whitsel, Matthew Clark and wife Margaret, Jacob Clark and wife Jordan, Aaron Clark and Miranda Sherman and husband Zac, six great grandchildren, Jennika Whitsel, Adalee Whitsel, Brady Clark, Gracie Clark, Ethan Clark and Jackson Sherman, one brother, Leland Doney and wife Brenda of Waynesboro, PA, one niece, Sherri Hall and one nephew, Michael Doney. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Ashlyn Buterbaugh.
Mr. Doney graduated from Forbes Road High School in the Class of 1961. He was a member of the Knobsville Church of the Brethren, the Forbes Road Lions Club and the National Rifle Association.
During his life he was employed at T. B. Woods, Chambersburg, PA, H. J. Heinz Co., Chambersburg, PA, then for almost 30 years at the Exxon gas station at the Sideling Hill Plaza of the Pennsylvania Turnpike before retiring from JLG Industries, McConnellsburg, PA. He was also a Taylor Township Supervisor for many years.
He enjoyed sports and was a fan of the New York Yankees, the Cleveland Browns and Richard Petty. He was also an avid Marty Robbins fan.
He was also an avid coonhunter and spent many nights taking his dogs out for a hunt. Joining him were friends, family and grandchildren.
Rich was also interested in Civil War history and had a large collection of Civil War books. When visiting battlefields and historic sites he was a walking history book.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 12, 2022 at the M. R. Brown Funeral Home, 301 Pitt St., Hustontown, PA with Rev. Harold Yeager and Rev. Robert Bilger officiating. Interment will be made at the Old School Baptist Cemetery, Three Springs, PA. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
