Harry Edward "Ned" Smith Jr. Obituary

Harry Edward "Ned" Smith Jr., 89, of Philipsburg, passed away Monday February 7,2022 at his residence.

Born December 15,1932 in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late Harry E. Smith Sr. and Frances (Roberts) Smith.

After graduating from Lock Haven High School, he attended Lock Haven University and attained his bachelor's degree in education from Lycoming College.

Harry served as a corporal in the United State Marines during the Korean War.

He taught Science in the Philipsburg Scholl District for 28 years, retiring in June of 1986.

Harry loved hunting, fishing, being outdoors and was an avid member of the NRA. He took pride in being referred to as a horticulturist.  He could grow anything and had been able to graft many fruit trees.

Harry married Virginia Lee (Thompson) Smith, who preceded him in death on May 20, 2016

Surviving is a daughter Lucie Opalka of Oklahoma City, OK, a son Allen Smith and his wife Regina Raymond of Osceola Mills, a granddaughter Katie Opalka and a great granddaughter Haven.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Virginia and a grandson Garrett Smith.

It was his wishes to have no visitation or service.

The Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc. of Houtzdale is in charge of the arrangements.
