Ivan O. Jager, 85, of Fayette and formerly of La Porte City, died, Sunday, February 6, 2022, at his son Rev. Mike's (Joy) home in Fayette, following a lengthy illness. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church in Fayette. Inurnment with military rites will be held at a later date. Visitation will precede services at the Church on Tuesday starting at 9:30 AM. Ivan Otto, son of Otto and Lydia (Tietz) Jager was born September 7, 1936, in Readlyn. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Readlyn. Ivan graduated from Readlyn High School in 1954. Following graduation, he began working at Rath Meat Packing Plant in Waterloo, prior to serving in the United States Army. Ivan was stationed in Korea during his service. Upon his honorable discharge, he continued his working career at Rath’s. In 1965, Ivan was united in marriage with Carolyn Crew in Independence. The couple made their home in La Porte City. After 22 years being employed at Rath’s, Ivan began working at the University of Northern Iowa in the Public Safety Department. He was a long time member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in La Porte City, the Lion’s Club, and was a Boy Scout Leader. Ivan and his wife, Carolyn enjoyed traveling. In 2020, he moved to Fayette to live with his son, Rev. Mike and daughter-in-law, Joy. Ivan is survived by his son, Rev. Mike (Joy) Jager of Fayette; two grandchildren, Jayson Schlarmann of Cedar Falls and Tara (Joe) Henry of Waverly; and five great-grandchildren, Bella and Brendyn Schlarmann, and Hadley, Hayden, and Harlowe Henry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn in 2013.
