On Sunday, January 31 2022, our beloved Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, auntie and friend left this world to be with her Lord and Saviour at the age of 83 years.
Martha was born on March 21, 1938 to Didymus and Barbara Moose (nee. Beardy), she was born and raised on Partridge Crop Lake and Nanatuan Lake with her brothers and sisters. Our mom spent most of her young life on her father’s trap line where she learned and mastered many of the skills that she was well known for such as hunting, fishing, snaring and living of the land.
At a young age, Martha attended residential school in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and she often shared her lived experiences with her children and grandchildren about the hardships and loneliness that she experienced by being so far away from home. By the time she returned home, her family had settled in Pikwitonei, where she met her future husband Percy Laubmann
On December 29th, 1955 at the Anglican Church in Pikwitonei, Manitoba Percy and Martha were joined in holy matrimony. Together the couple was blessed with eight Children, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Throughout their years the couple also opened their home to numerous foster children and adopted two of their foster children.
During her life, she spent most of her time raising children, taking care of her home and being a devoted wife. Martha was also a successful entrepreneur along with her husband, including running a coffee shop out of their home in Pikwitonei. Martha was well known for her beautiful leather creations and bead work that she sold to many people in northern Manitoba and around the country.
Mom had many hobbies; fishing, snaring rabbits, berry picking and she was a skilled hunter who went on many hunting excursions with her husband Percy and her brothers. Martha was a devout Christian and she loved to go to church, attend bible study who encouraged her family to have and keep the faith. Martha loved to sing and listen to gospel music and her and her husband Percy sang together all the time. Martha had a wonderful sense of humour and she loved to laugh; she was always joking about something and had a “nickname” for everyone.
Martha loved her home community, Pikwitonei, she spent many years being on the School board committee and was also a homemaker to many of the elders. Martha had midwifery skills, that she learned from her mother Barbara. Martha assisted her mom with deliveries in the Pikwitonei area.
