Edith Mary Roberts was born to Cyril C. and Caroline L. (Deltener) Roberts on September 8, 1933, in Frankfort, SD. She attended grade school to the 4th grade at Frankfort and then her family moved to Redfield. She completed her education and graduated in 1951 from Redfield High School.
She met Harold H. Bell and they were married on October 14, 1957, in Clark, SD at the Lutheran Church in Hague Township. They were blessed with four children: Tamara in 1958, Charles in 1961, Carolyn in 1963, and Diana in 1975. The family moved several times for Harold’s work, but they eventually settled in Redfield. Edith enjoyed being at home raising her family while babysitting for others.
During her school years, she worked at several restaurants. After graduation, she worked at the National Food Store and then at the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. Once her children were grown, Edith worked as a waitress at the Coffee Shop for Jack and Jean Jankord. She worked there for 14 years. From there, she worked for Dr. W.J. Birkholz as a dental assistant. Edith was taught on the job and worked for him for 21 years, retiring when the office closed.
Edith and Harold were members of Messiah Lutheran Church in Redfield. Edith was also a member of the Altar Guild and taught nursery Sunday School until her own children grew up.
Edith’s hobbies included exercising, going to Christian Womens, baking, watching golf, and spending time with grandchildren. She treasured her many friendships throughout her years, most recently at Lakeside Apartments and Primrose Retirement Community.
Edith is survived by her son Charles H. Bell of Aberdeen; daughter Carolyn M. Bell of Fargo, ND; daughter Diana L. (David) Pfister of Aberdeen; grandson Austin (Taylor) Bell and their children Grayson and Olivia; granddaughter Emma Bell; grandson Dawson Pfister; granddaughter Kelli (Matt) Pfister and their children Jalen and Jackson; and grandson Kevin Pfister.
