David Sterago Obituary

John David Sterago, 73, passed away Jan. 24, 2022 due to complications from Covid-19. He was a beloved son, brother, nephew, uncle and friend.

David was born to the late Anthony Sterago and Marcia Brewster Sterago on November 25, 1948. He spent most of his formative years in Round Rock, TX where he was a graduate of Round Rock High School. He graduated from Brigham Young University, in Utah, with a B.A. in Theater Arts. David also served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was a proud veteran.

Throughout his life, David continued to pursue his love of acting as well as writing. He was a prolific writer. He is the published author of several mystery thrillers, Murder by Suicide, Through Satan’s Eyes and Guarding Sarah. David also had small roles in movies such as Harry’s War, Stewardess School, DoJo Kids and most recently The World’s Fastest Indian starring Anthony Hopkins. He also wrote several movie and TV screenplays. At the time of his passing, he was working on writing 3 additional novels simultaneously.

He was a fun-loving guy who enjoyed many other hobbies. He loved football, particularly the Dallas Cowboys (and the cheerleaders), and he was interested in historical events such as Davy Crockett and the Alamo. He was a fervent follower of all BYU athletics, rarely missing any radio or televised events, sharing his enjoyment with friends. He also loved Elvis Presley and had been a fan since childhood. He will be missed by his family and friends.

He was predeceased by sisters Lynn Slebzak, Julie Compton and brother Paul Sterago. He is survived by his sisters: Carolyn Casey of Annapolis, MD; Sally Sterago of Boston, MA; Deborah Lesyshyn of Virginia Beach, VA; and Rebecca Butler of Belton, TX; brothers Wayne Sterago of Annapolis, MD; and Anthony Sterago of Pforzheim, Germany, as well as many nieces and nephews.

David was a faithful and devoted member of the Church of the Latter-day Saints. A memorial service will be held for David at 11 a.m. on Saturday Feb. 5, 2022, with a viewing preceding the service from 9:30-10:30 at Timpanogos Park 5th Ward 990 N 100 W Orem, UT 84058. There will a luncheon following the service at the church.
